mynbmr 225 Report post Posted April 14, 2013 (edited) Stopped at BP to fuel up and when I tried to start the car again, it wouldnt. All the lights came on but wouldnt do anything. Its happened a couple of times before. When the car has cooled right down (after about an hour), it will start again. Any ideas? The battery and everything is all ok. 1994 E34 530i V8 Cheers Hans Edited April 14, 2013 by bmrmad

M5V8 337 Report post Posted April 16, 2013 +1 something that's an issue only when hot. solenoid is the cheapest and easiest fix, most likley if there is no noise or action at all. If you hear noises it could be the starter isn't strong enough to engage.
turbolizard 38 Report post Posted April 17, 2013 Had the exact same thing on my e34 540. Used to happen once a year on the hottest day but got worse and worse and I was having to push start once a month when hot (restarting at gas station or in town). It was the starter solenoid but I just changed the whole starter over for $60. Don't know why I put up with it for so long. Haven't had a problem since.
