Car wont start when hot

Recommended Posts

Stopped at BP to fuel up and when I tried to start the car again, it wouldnt. All the lights

came on but wouldnt do anything. Its happened a couple of times before. When the car has cooled right down (after about an hour), it will start again. Any ideas? The battery and everything is all ok.

something that's an issue only when hot.

solenoid is the cheapest and easiest fix, most likley if there is no noise or action at all.

If you hear noises it could be the starter isn't strong enough to engage.

Had the exact same thing on my e34 540. Used to happen once a year on the hottest day but got worse and worse and I was having to push start once a month when hot (restarting at gas station or in town).

It was the starter solenoid but I just changed the whole starter over for $60. Don't know why I put up with it for so long. Haven't had a problem since.
