allo allo, long time Subaru, new to BMW

Having spent 10 years on a Subaru (almost to the day)

JDM twin turbo

had opportunity to trade my Runabout Escort

for this '94 V8

My other ride's are Hillman Avenger's : a '76 Auto GLS and a '73 Caged rally car with a worked 1600 putting 90 hp down at the rear

My 1st ever car ended up like this

and I can do this with the white one on the track/gravel

so yea, guess you could say I have finally seen the light and upgraded well and proper!

Just done service and the usual "oil light" thing came up which led me here, still trying to figure that part out/get procedure right

Learning things about my E34 everyday and this looks like a nice place to hang out

Cheers ~ Jared

ps: my other "main" forums would be ClubSUB and Oldschool, am sure a few of you are on either and might recognise a few of my 'other' rides

(found this place thru bimmerfest : not liking the international flavour over there too much)

ha, from my signature? They each have their advantages. Im the E30 and E34 mod there, but i dont post there so much these days. Saw you pop up a few times in the E34 section though ^_^ Its much better if you have a question specific to a particular chassis, you just have to take some degree of consideration in for RHD versus LHD. Whereas here seems to be a much more sociable forum, where you learn about models other than what you own, and can get help from a wider variety of experiences.

But Welcome to Bimmersport!

yea all your fault : was the pics from recent meet in the E34 off topic thread specifically, knew there had to be a Kiwi forum somewhere

hawkes bay section here a bit dull, slightly closer to Palmy, ClubSub taking over a Playday @ Manfield in Sept with a guest Dyno, tempted to throw the V8 on and see what actual figures are, not sure if I'll track it, managed to kill the Red car's auto doing that, the Leggy has been around numerous times and the White car is fun on slicks

You and my father in law would get along well - he grafted two accident damaged Hunters together to make a two door wagon about 20-something years back :) Still drives it today too! welcome aboard!

You may want to give the cooling system some loving before you take it to the track though. And go easy on them brakes. A mate of mine completely baked rotors, pads and a front hose on his E34 540i in less than three laps around Pukekohe :D

another good reason to not go on :P have had my fill for the next few years and yea the cooling system seems to be a bit of a weak point from what I have read

the White caged car has a bit of history and the donar gearbox for red is coming out of a 2-door shell, rare crap is fun

the 540 will become the new tow vehicle : any tips? its Auto and as mentioned I dont wanna cook it/ stick to A4?

also after a Front Bumper (was like that when i got it) and a left front fog :/

what does the "ia" and "se" stand for on the rego?

next time I'm down kapiti (hoping weekend 23rd at this stage) could call in share stories

any history with it? Darryl added the tints and Springs as far as I know, still figuring out hte features, not bad for a nearly 20 year old car

540i(a)utomatic.

SE just means top spec i think.

I added the springs (H&R's), shocks (monroe sensatrac), wheels, and rear lip. Had the inlet manifold and valley pan gaskets done, along with the PCV valve. replaced a coolant hose that ran to teh trans i think??

Mechanic reckoned someone had spent some coin on the front end in the past too.

Just done service and the usual "oil light" thing came up which led me here, still trying to figure that part out/get procedure right

Did this to me too. sticky sensor IIRC

Yeah man feel free to pop in. PM me when you know when!

"top spec" under the "motorsport" version? then the "M-Specs" then "M"s come next?

is that how it works? or does "se" slot further up the chain

sweet, yea mate is at Jeff Grays in Palmy and was asking about oil leaks, and how many it has : cant be worse than the Subaru (also has a continuous-anti-chassis-rust feature / tappet leaks)

the OEM rims are in the back of his full wood shed still, might be a summer/Xmas present

fuel pump went wonky last year and the replacement unit has a slightly shorter pickup so I have learnt quick if I see the fuel light I'm buggered almost instantly LOL

mind you I spy the recommendation that its not ideal to go under 30mi left on the gauge, will stick to that

assume BP 98 is the best for this beast? (Only 10-5kw, from wiki, more than the Subaru so it's not much more than I am used to)

The main difference is that it sounds like a real car and not a large fart ;)

Yes 98 is best. As long as its not 91 you will get away with it.

bahahaha

well it is also my first V8, 3" from somewhere/scrapes on speedbumps, doesn't sound too bad at all, fun part is making it backfire when its cold and not chopping down gears (just waiting for day it spits out some steel)

That's the 4 cobys that sit after the headers (2 each bank). One of the reasons i flicked it - i couldnt get it up the driveway of the house i was moving to haha

I used to hang around Clubsub at the time (username - RSB). The E34 was WAY better on gas on long trips if i took it easy, and i didnt have to give it as much sh*t to access its 210 kiloponies. And then there is that noise it makes...

Sub was WAYWAYWAY cheaper in traffic though, and a different kind of fun over the twisty hill roads. :)

proving slightly less economical after 1st tank (the GTB was running on 3 hence worst overall score)

driving style may alter after I get used to it :P

yes the Avenger needs a tuneup!
