E36 318is Motorsport jumps out of 1st gear

Sometimes my girlfriends NZ new E36 318is Motorsport jumps out of 1st gear. It can sometimes happen a couple of times a day or it might now happen for weeks.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? Is it a common fault? Could it be a simple fix like a bush or linkage?
