rds 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) Hi people, Went to install my oil pump back on to the block last night and stopped because I thought I was missing a gasket. http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-59326584023620_2266_77118099 (Not my oil pump but doesn't matter) On the face where the oil channel is that meets the block. Is this supposed to have a gasket? I can't see any bottom end gasket set with one that will work. I can just make one but could someone please clear this up for me. e30ftw 410 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Does not appear to be one except the #12 one between pickup and pump.
rds 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the reply, Yea I saw this picture also. Does it not seem strange that here isn't a gasket there? Is there anyone here who has rebuilt a m50 bottom end who can tell me Edited October 9, 2013 by rds

yng_750 247 Report post Posted October 19, 2013 i would expect to have a gasket. its under pressure so must have something, should be a very good mounting surface so would only need a very thin layer or silicon rtv or gasket. i have done a few non bmw cars but those had the bulk of the pump machined out of the block. yng_750 247 Report post Posted October 19, 2013 i know m52 guys often drill a hole through the nut and use safety wire to stop the sprocket nut rattling loose, might be worth looking into, at very least use a layer of red threadlocker on the thread
