E30stz 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2005 (edited) dont need 2 threads. Theres not much point in putting a chip into a 318 as they're already slow, correct me if im wrong but I would assume the performance gain will not be all that noticeable. K&N / Exhaust / Chip would only put out a max of around 8 horsepower at a cost of aronud $500. K&N - $120 ? Chip - $170 Exhaust $250 - 300 ? details for chips are here - http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index.php?showtopic=3622 Edited September 23, 2005 by E30stz
danutt 4 Report post Posted September 23, 2005 where would i get my hands on a performance chip???would this asfc made by apexi work on a bmw if so is it a good buy??helps you add fuel where you want in the rev range?
E30stz 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2005 all them seem to do the same general thing - i would never try purchasing one of trademe or ebay as the reliability factor is zilch. I'd recommend going to e30zone maybe or somewhere that specialises in them. Remember though it has the potential to stuff up your car should something go wrong. And I mean the cheaper more dodger chip you get ... the more likely this is gonna happen. Cheers Andy

ScD 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2005 I think you will find most of the ebay chips are made by people with an EPROM burner and a PC. You can buy a PROM chip like in most of the older Motronic systems for a couple of $$ and make you own by duplicating a reputable chip... The trouble is knowing where the original chip came from... Coffee&Doughnut 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2005 I bought a cheap chip. Its Ok really, I figured $500 or $50 and a little research. I can always stick the original one back in , but the motor is better with the cheap chip, snake oil is expensive.
m325i 709 Report post Posted September 26, 2005 how do you even know it IS running lean? 318s are just plane gutless up top.. down bottom.. in the middle. they arent that bad. I reckon they go sweet for a 1.8 in a solid 4 door, (if that be the case).Rather have a 318i than a 320i
danutt 4 Report post Posted September 28, 2005 m325i yea its a four door and doesnt do badly for its power to weight but i just want a little more out of it and a chip is an option thanx
