polley 916 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 Some basics about maps and sensors Most sensors are analogue and put out signals with noise on them, these are generally filtered to make them more linear and consistent , also noise can be introduced into the supply to the sensor also causing variation. An un filtered TPS for example might vary by 5% without actually being moved, so in theory the vehicle could speed up and slow down by this much, BMW will have set parameters in the ECU to filter all this out. You can use something like the sprint boost which modifies the signal so the ECU thinks it is seeing a bigger swing and responds accordingly by chucking more fuel in. I think the sprint boost is actually for cars using drive by wire, so its moving the throttle butterfly faster / further than what is actually requested by the driver. Making it seem more responsive / faster. Which is a bit different than fudging a TPS signal on a mechanically driven throttle butterfly. The TPS in these instances is generally used for acceleration fuel enrichments, tip in, tip out etc and deceleration fuel cut.
