timewarrior 3 Report post Posted October 16, 2014 Hi guys, I have stumbled across a problem with my M50 swapped E30. I read somewhere that the sump from an E34 has to be used to clear the subframe and that the E36 dipstick will not give an accurate reading. I don't know whether the guy that did the swap used the correct dipstick or retained the E36 one. The question for those who have this mod is: have you changed your dipstick, if so what to; and when you do an oil change, what is the oil capacity of the M52B25 with an E34 sump? Any help would be much appreciated!
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted October 16, 2014 I'm pretty sure capacity is the same, But I remember I came across this when I was swapping pans. e36 dipstick is about an inch longer. I had to use the e36 one and fill oil until the top of the plastic read gauge as that was roughly where the e34 marks lined up from memory. As for what you have, might pay to check part number if they have one.. Or get an e34 one to be sure.
