Recommended places for clutch replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have an E36 manual that needs a new clutch, and maybe flywheel? I got quoted at BM Workshop but they are charging 100% markup on the parts which I would like to avoid as this adds about $1500 to the cost of the job.

So is there someone recommended within Auckland as being reasonable/recommended for work on an older BMW like this, or is there someone will just charge labour if supplied the clutch kit and flywheel?

Thanks.

Repco stock the clutch you need and If you have the tools, you can do it yourself for nothing using the internet and some patience.

OR im sure plenty of AK members will happily do it for a wee price.

Thanks for the comment I don't mind doing the odd job including changing the rear shocks and RSMs last week myself, but since doing my Valiant trans twice many years ago i promised i wouldn't do another one....

Ive been getting my some parts from Pelicanparts its been working out cheap I can't imagine Repco being competitive they seem far more expensive for things even over SupercheapAuto here - happy to pay for labour, just want to avoid being screwed with the 100% parts markup from the garage.

Text me bro,

Might be able to help you out on that one. I avoid retail like the plague.

I am in west Auckland if that helps.

I suspect your comments about mark-up are bit wide.

BM Workshop source locally but can also buy from Germany if you don't mind waiting, this can be cheaper so I'd go back and ask them if they can source parts at a better price.

Depending on the distance travelled doing the fly wheel is well worth it, transformed our diesel - BMW say do it at 250,000 km

You could talk to Dave at D&T auto, just off Swanson road does quite a few E30's 34's , 36's and 39's great guy .

Personally my E36 will be going to BM workshop if I ever need a clutch job on it.

Thanks - they did compare their two sources and said there wasn't much in it, basically they want $2900 for parts up front including the flywheel before they order, but i know i can even land all that for about $2000 at normal retail prices, so yes 100% markup is not correct.

I wasn't expecting a knackered clutch and flywheel at 150,000kms but there you go....All comments appreciated thanks guys.
