Valvebounce 2 Report post Posted August 5, 2015 I scored a Reinz head gasket set for my M20.Real nice kit. But there are a few bits in the set that I can't find homes for. One large O ring, (Larger that the sqaure section one from the outside of the cam seal carrier) One small O ring (smaller that the two on the oil drain tube) And two pairs of Shims Any idea where these bit belong? Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted August 5, 2015 Little ring might be oil housing bolt seal? Or do the M20s use a screw on type filter?

E30 325i Rag-Top 2959 Report post Posted August 5, 2015 The silver rings are sealing washers not shims (I think), go under things like the temp sensors to stop them leaking. If you haven't stripped the head right down then they probably don't need to be replaced. Not important bits anyways...
Valvebounce 2 Report post Posted August 6, 2015 I just unbolted the thermostat housing whole when I had the head pressure teasted. I was concerned about torquing the head down, only to find I'd missed something which couldn't be done insitu. Many thanks for the input guys.
antil33t 90 Report post Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) Large one, could also be the seal for the oil cooler thermostat right angle thing or just the thermostat hard to tell haha, small one dipstick, crush washers for sensors and one will be for the sump plug.. M20's have a spin on and no filter housing. Edited August 7, 2015 by antil33t
Valvebounce 2 Report post Posted August 23, 2015 The four shim/sealing washers were indeed for the two temp senders. A spare t/stat housing I have also had an extra pair of hex bungs in it which would account for the other two washers. The baby O ring is still a mystery.
