E65 Drivers Seatbelt Restraint

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I am new to the forum,

Just picked up a reasonably tidy E65 but unfortunately its giving me the airbag light and in the I-Drive system it is telling me "Driver restraint system fault" and something about a seatbelt tensioner,

Does anybody know anything about this and is it an easy fix?

Cheers

21" 745i

P.S. I did a search on the forum and nothing popped up

scan for error codes / clear codes then see if it comes back

could be lots of different things so you wont know until you get it scanned. no point changing parts cuz the forums tells you its probably part x

99% of the time, no

Take it to a dealership or a legitimate aftermarket specialist. Generic code scanners only tell less than half of the story

Thank you, I am glad I didn't rush out to buy one then, No BMW workshops where I live sadly but there is a European workshop so I may try them, Cheers!

Most of them will scan for fault codes fine, but the fault code only tells part of the story. For example a scan might show a fault code for an exhaust oxygen sensor fault but it usually indicates an air leak somewhere after the MAF sensor.

If your local guy is halfway decent they'll be able to help you out - its pretty likely the faulty tensioner is the reason behind the airbag light coming on but you will certainly need a good scan & a tech with a brain to identify the problem. Best of luck, hopefully its not too expensive to sort out :)
