Etwenty1 45 Report post Posted January 30, 2016 Happy long weekend.... Just trying to fit som bilstein b8's into my e34535i and seems I need a special wrench to tighten the insert collar onto the strut. Anyone have one I can borrow or is it a job for bf pipe wrench? nick496 268 Report post Posted January 30, 2016 Process appears to be quite similar to E30's. http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenance/Suspension/Front_shocks.htm Just use a BF Pipe wrench. The best method I found was to attach the strut back to the wheel, put the wheel flat on the ground, and then use the pipe wrench to twist on the collar. This allows for more force to be used since the strut isn't rolling away from you.
Etwenty1 45 Report post Posted January 30, 2016 all good, went vice and small cold chisel to remove, and channel locks and locktite for installation. The instructions with the Bilsteins spec'd a torque value for the gland nut so i though it might be something special.....
tcbaurpower 5 Report post Posted February 2, 2016 There is a special tool you can use, I got one posted over from oz. you can then use a torque wrench to tighten the collar.
