BMW Diagnostics / Coding Software

I have over 100GB of every BMW diagnostics and coding/programming package there is available for every model, all up and running. However, I have no real use for 90% of it as I have no clue what it all does. So, what I want to know is...what software packages are the important ones to have, and which ones do basically the same thing as these?

Match the software to the period of the car you are working on - these factory softwares are designed for specific periods and specific models, having the latest software doesn't equate to better functionality - in fact you lose functionality in some of the later stuff and they simply don't communicate with the earlier stuff as well - also some of the later stuff don't have both metric and imperial readings so you get inaccurate live readings.

For anything pre 2005, you really only need EDIABAS 6.4.3 and no older.
