e34 m50 engines

Recommended Posts

hey,

while looking around i think i came on to something. Is the M50 engine always covered with the black cover? What does it look like if you take it off? Does it look just like the M20? I'm just trying to figure out a easy way to make the difference between the two.

Thanks

Manifolds are completely different. Rocker covers different size / color.

I dont know how you could mistake one for the other.

they have varying models of m20's / m50's but they all have the same distinctive look to them.

i know this is not the best place to post this, but while we're taking about the m50 engine in a e34:

while i was at a dealer who had a couple of e34's a couple of days ago, he said that the engine mounts are someking of 'shock absorbers' to reduce the vibration of the enine (that's in my own words). Apparently after a while (wear and tear) something happens to them (oil going somewhere it shouldn't be?!) and the car vibrates more when it is idling. He also said that this can be solved by putting a jack under the ENGINE/GEARBOX and lifting it up a bit, so that the mounts suck oil back into where it should be?????

Thants what he said, not in those exact words, but that was the point. Is any of this true? It's almost like something doesn't sound right.
