Fants 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2017 Hi my current head unit (BMW business) does not have Bluetooth or any AUX functionality. Would really like to have these available, which got me wondering would the next head unit in the production line (BMW professional) firstly fit and secondly be compatible with the existing wiring. So if the above answer is no, what would people's recommendations be. Would the pop up nav unit be an option?? Have made many calls and looked on google for an answer but can't seem to find anything conclusive. Cheers Fants.
Neal 544 Report post Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) Check the dension site. You might be able to plug a Denison gateway into you factory unit. Would give you Bluetooth / USB / aux controlled via your factory system http://www.dension.com/automotive/compatible-products/GWL3BM4,GW17BM4,GW33BM4,GWP1BM4,CDR2BM4,GBL3BM4,DBG1GEN,GWL2BM4,GBL1BM4,GW16BM4,GWF1BM4?startlng=&make=BMW&type=X3&year=2004-2010&hu=Business CD&img=bmw_x3_business_head_unit.png&info=Must have phone button on the radio or R/T button on the steering wheel for Gateway Pro. Gateway Pro is not compatible if head unit is manufactured by Becker (except 16%3A9 Navigation)%2C the radio has factory phone module%2C or disabling the phone function of the Gateway Pro is needed. Head Units with DSP are not supported. Text display function of the relevant iGateway / 300 / Lite or Lite BT product is not available for BMW if the Head Unit is made by Becker%2C the head unit has phone preparation (phone button) or the head unit has factory phone module. Please note that the CDR2xxx units are only compatible with the Gateway 100 (GW16BM4) and Gateway 300 (GW33BM4) units Edited April 21, 2017 by Neal
Onizukachan 5 Report post Posted April 23, 2017 Strange, our US spec 04 e83 has the standard head and it is aux capable. I checked the build sheet and it is a business radio. Bt calling can be added with a TCU easily. Bt streaming with controls is different, of course. Are you iPhone?

Probably cheaper to go for an aftermarket model. Fants.

I bought the BMW aux cable, and plugged it on the back of the radio. It doesn't have a "aux port" i installed the jack on the other end of the cable next to the rear lighter so both rear and front seat passengers can use it. My my brother only has apple devices so he installed the Enfig adapter for wired iPhone playback with controls in his e83. Iirc he said he was going to put it in the armrest, as that is where the phone adapters would have gone, and it's a good place for even an ip6+ Edited April 24, 2017 by Onizukachan
