N62 Valve Stem Removal Tool

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know a source in NZ that hires out the tool? There is a place in Auckland but they only hire to workshops. I can handle the job with some assistance from a very knowledgeable father in law but I'd rather not drop the engine unless I absolutely have to.

Hey Marty

Have you looked into Tonys AGA Tool Rental Service?  https://www.facebook.com/BMWN62/ I don't know how much they charge but I think  they ship worldwide now.

Alternatively if buying rather than renting is a consideration some of the cheaper end of buying could be

https://www.ozwidetools.com.au/bmw-n62-valve-stem-seal-tool-kit - their shipping is quite reasonable. But it looks like they don't have any stock right now.  There is where I got mine from.

All Euro Parts in Auckland may have one for sale?  I think I saw one on their trade me store late last year for ~ $900

https://www.germanspecialtytools.com/products/bmw-valve-stem-seal-tool-set-bmw-n62-and-n62tu-engine but I think shipping is a but spency for this one.

Or slightly outside of the box

I'm making an assumption here if your willing to remove the engine that's because you would be removing the heads to do the job instead of using the AGA style tool with the heads in place.  If thats right there is an alternative generic tool available that requires you to remove the camshafts but you can leave the heads on.  So if you're comfortable re-timing the engine then that's maybe an option too?  Here's a youtube video of a guy using it on his N62.
