Low20 1 Report post Posted March 15 Hi all, recently had an error come up on my x5 that the tow hitch is not securely locked. Iv tried several times but it just makes a noise but does not move and is stuck open. Forums are light on this topic as this was largely an option for the Europe and Asia market. Does any body have any insights or recommendations? I’m wondering if it’s better to move to a traditional tow hitch instead of electric. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
exextatic 147 Report post Posted March 15 While I haven't personally dealt with one, I've heard these towbars have issues with stripped plastic gears, which does seem like it could be your issue. You'd have to take the drive mechanism apart and inspect it. If one or more of the plastic gears are stripped, replace all the plastic gears with metal replacements (can be found on eBay).
