2010 535I Rear Door card removal

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a 535I GT Hatch and I am needing to replace the window winding mechanism in the rear right passenger door. Looking on u-tube I found the E60 door card removal videos but none of the door that is on my a car. I have taken the wood trim off and found a torx screw, but I am having difficulty finding where else there are parts that can unclip.

Can anyone help?

There is possibly a screw under the inside door handle, or door handle trim, I'd check there also (remove the plastic trim surrounding the door handle and inspect). On a separate note, that's a really weird position for a door handle, it's so far back it must be inconvenient to use.

The clips that hold the door card on, once all of the screws have been removed, are hidden behind the panel and you'll need to pry the panel off to release them, sometimes you'll need to use quite a lot of force. I recommend starting at one corner using a plastic pry tool (or something that won't damage the door card or the door paint) to release the clip(s) there, once you've done one you'll know what to expect for the others, then work your way around the perimeter.

Once you've released all of the clips you'll be able to establish whether you've removed all of the necessary screws (because if not, the card won't come off). You'll also need to navigate the door lock shaft if there is one but that's simple enough. And be mindful of connections for the window switch and speakers, the cables are short.

Thanks M3AN,

Yes the handle is set back quite a way, you need to twist yourself to use it, just as well that I sit in the front seat.

I have some plastic pry tools which I used to take off the wood trim near the top of the door, that needed some force to remove. I wasn't sure how much brute to use in fear of breaking something and not knowing where the screws are doesn't help.

Cheers

I had a go at getting the piece surrounding the door handle, but there doesn't seem to be any access to it. It sits just under the panel on the righthand side. It looks like the panel holding the door handle inclusive of the chrome trim might unclip but I broke one of the clips trying. There seems to be no obvious area to target.

Try popping the card off the door, starting at a corner. You'll be able to pop the clips even if some screws are still in place. Once you've sussed out the clips you'll be able to determine if there are any remaining screws.

Edit: there won't be any screws around the perimeter of the door card so you don't need to be concerned about pulling one out.

Try this guide:

Looks like it's just the t30 torx, then clips on the sides and bottom.

Door panel removal starts about 1:35
