kerrynzl 3 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Hey ,I've just pulled my M52 engine out of my 328. I discovered it's an Iron block. I've decoded the VIN [it is a 328], I rang the last owner [who bought it new] He reassures me it has never had an engine swap. I thought only US spec M52's had Iron blocks, anyway the motor is out,Can anyone tell me where the engine numbers are stamped on it? If I am lucky and it is a Iron 2.8 litre I can see a 86mm Bore happening [more power] CHEERS EVERYONE. . . . Kerry
conrod 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 How bizarre, I thought only US spec ones were iron too! Was it NZ new, or an import? I have an ali block 2.8 if you decide that the 30 kg weight saving is more important than the 86mm overbore!
kerrynzl 3 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 New in South Africa, The same owner bought it new & imported it here. Being a Big Block Chevy racer,I'm gonna try and build the largest lazy engine I can [within a realistic budget] Anyway Where on your alloy block do they stamp the serial numbers? westy 614 Report post Posted August 4, 2006 Well there ya go Is it an early, prefacelift 328 (obd1?)? Does it have ASC(traction control thingy) If it is early, around 95,and it doesnt have ASC,theres a (slim)chance it has an LSD or so the story goes. Might be worth checking anyway. Guest Spargo Report post Posted August 18, 2006 South African auto plants did some heinous bastardisations of cars in the 80's and early 90's container loads of E30's came in late 80,s That was to get around the heinous import tariffs, and was totally legit.
