Mods for my E36 - where to start?

Recommended Posts

As per title I'm dead keen to start making a list of sh*t I want to do to it, but not sure what area to start in.

Would like more grunt for sure but at same time grip and handling are important as well.

Where's a good place to start (maybe small-time?)

Shocks and springs, Buy new shocks (shortened if going lower) and see if you can score a good set of 2nd hand springs. Then a good set of brake pads

What's the best way for me to go about that one mate? How much for a setup that will do the job?

H&R springs and either Koni or Bilstein shocks.

My H&R/Bilstein setup cost me $1650 + $200 to get the front shocks shortened.

Then get some sticky and wider tires.

change all worn suspension bushes.

De-cat the car.

find a windy road :D

I have a set of H&R springs that would be perfect for your car, 60mm Front, 35mm rear drop. Look and handle mint. $280 ono. Pm me if your keen.

best place to start would be pod filter+heat shield, nice and cheap. this, a performance chip and exhaust made my e36 go alot harder. If yours is automatic it may be worth considering a manual conversion as mine takes down 328i autos. my next planned mod is a 328 crankcase apparently thats a good mod?

Do you mean a 328 shortblock? What top end are you planning on using?

Also what DME, as the Siemens unit can't be reflashed to a larger engine?

Hey, Keep me posted on yhis as I'm also considering a similar Mod!

OK Ron,

Could a M50B20 cylinder head be used on a M52B28 successfully on a street car?

For example: chucking a 2.8 shortblock into a 93-94 non EWS 320i

If it were me I would start by updating to clear front indicators and side repeaters, plus rear lights. That will help update it to the latter e36s. Then wheels mate, plus tints. :-)

Yeah after meeting a few new faces and having a chat with them it seems the way to go for me. Then will M-kit it & work on engine.
