The main issue is that they aren't tested for euro impact laws which means your not able to road register them here (TVR sent one for testing but the outfit doing the testing dropped the car off the back of a truck before it was tested so they didn't try again). They also don't qualify for low volume rules as they exceed the number of cars built per year under this scheme. I couldn't find a way to bring one other than for motorsport / trailer queen. I don't think the laws have change since. You can bring a tvr here, my mate brought 2 over last year, both registered, infact one was on display with the tvr club at intermarque concourse, that one he sold, and he kept the newer one of the two which i think was a 99 model , no airbags or the like Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
E30 325i Rag-Top 2914 Report post Posted October 3, 2011 Cool so what was the price it owed you (not the car price) the shipping/maf/compliance e.t.c.Shipping, port clearance, MAF, etc. was $4000 + gst, plus about 150 quid pick up in the UK plus $200 delivery to Palmy from Auckland.Compliance was about $390, iirc, and I had to replace the front brake rotors and a cracked foglamp. Well done on a 330d too - what shape?Late model E46 Wagon, M-sport, there's a few pictures on here somewhere. 204hp model with 6-speed manual which you have to have to meet the Euro 4 emissions, can only bring them in until the end of the year, then it's Euro 5! Neal 512 Report post Posted October 3, 2011 Looks like the import laws have changed for the best in regards to TVRs. Was looking at trying to bring back Chimera at the time (and an E30 M3). I just shipped a 2010 X5 over from the UK, price was $2190+GST ex folkstone to wellington, that included NZ Customs clearance, etc.. Including insurance as well, delivered to the vehicle certifier. Another company I looked at first was $2500+ GST, but was only too Auckland http://www.famous.co.nz I was put onto Autohub by a friend who imports lots from Japan, dont know if he got me a discount?, maybe? but im not aware of any. RvT 9 Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Hey Clinton I am half way through a DIY ex UK. I found a car on ebay uk / Pistonheads. Worked out that a dealership was fairly close to the seller. Had the dealership do a Pre Purchase Inspection for me. They found things wrong that only a dealer could find. Went to the seller and did a deal where we arranged the dealership to fix all the faults, I got sent proof by the dealer that they had completed the work and transferred the $. Meantime got McCullough NZ involved. They checked the VIN to make sure it complied. Quoted $3400 plus insurance plus cartage from location to port. Mmmm well I didn't want to offend this community by crossing to the dark side but I have to try it once .... 2007 Porsche TT with 15k miles on the clock. After the M5, it is hard to find a faster car that was quicker, made in EU and has 4 seats. A 25k GPB = $NZ50k + shipping say $4k + GST ($8k) + compliance and possible repairs (say $1.5k) is a total of ... $63,500 as a good estimate. The Pre Purchase Inspection cost 220 GBP . Cheers. It really depends on the vehicle and whether or not it is VAT qualifying. I don't know all the ins and outs but I am pretty sure you can only claim the VAT back if you are a registered English company. He also uses a roll on roll off freight company that has its own drivers on the boat (so the monkeys here don't thrash them) and specialises in shipping prestige vehicles. Would you want your new vehicle put in a container that MAY get crashed around? BTW: congrats on number 2, my 2nd is now 3 months old. You forget how much sleep you lose! I have a spreadsheet that will work it out for you but in general, allow $6500 shipping from UK or Europe to NZ and then $1000 for compliance over here. Example ... a 10,000 pound car will be on the road here for $33,500 based on .45c conversion. A 15,000 pound car will be on the road here for $46,000. Hi there, I am new to the forum but am about to import a used vehicle from the uk. I am clear about shipping costs, customs, gst etc however, am trying to understand whether VAT is able to be deducted on leaving the uk? I have both read and heard that VAT is not applicable to used cars, only to the margin charged. Can anyone clarify claiming back VAT for me - if it is possible and on what sort of vehicles? Many thanks! : Hi & welcome to the forumOthers may chime in but claiming VAT yourself is difficult / impossible. Usually it is the dealer who claims it back on your behalf and they have a lot of paperwork to do to get it so are sometimes reluctant to do so. From my understanding, you can only claim the VAT on the purchase price if the car is less than 6 months old or is a demo in the dealership. It may pay to check the NZ Transport web page as they usually increase the standard around 1 January every year and it may be be Euro 5 if you comply the car after 1 Jan.Best company to bring the car over ???
