  1. Hey guys, currently going thru abit of sh*t over a blown amp and the liability of it.

Raxworthys  in CHCH repaired my car. When I picked it up there was no sound coming though the speakers due to a Blown AMP according to their guy, they say it's not their problem and their auto sparky(who had to get another auto sparky in who supposedly knew about BMW's) is saying it's a common problem, everyone I’ve rung hasn't heard of this being a common trouble. All we're getting out of Raxworthys is smug attitude, which is a shame because I went there because of their seemingly good reputation

Only 3 ways I can think of that would cause it to blow

    1. f**ked up jump starting

    2. Shorted something putting battery back in

    3. Welded without disconnecting battery

All of which would of happened in their possession

How much for a replacement amp for my 1996 E39 540i?? (has tv in dash)

Beginning to think it's going to be easier and cheaper to replace the amp myself. At this stage I have to take it to town, pay $65 for removal and inspection of amp and have a written report, then have to go back to my insurance co again over it and go from there.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  2. Hey guys, just got my car back fromt he panel beaters, they let the battery go flat and now I cant get any sound out of the system and it won't read the CD's. I can still get TV picture etc but no Sound fullstop

Any ideas on what it could be?

It will be going back but if its quite common just for a particular fuse to blow after the battery has been charged I may aswell try it.... my thoughts aren't that interesting so I need my radio working haha!

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  3. I dont have a xp laptop lol Thanks for the offers. We've found a BMW mechanic who does cash jobs so it's at his place at the moment so if something changes I'll get back on this thread

In the meantime I might start looking at getting a scanner and find one of my old laptops that in XP

  4. Hey Guys,

How does Batman Premiere Tickets, Dinner, and running around in a old 70's Camaro sound? Exciting? not your cup of tea but know someone who would be? maybe even just mildly interested then? ... Read on and Click the Link!

My little Sister and her group are taking part in a Year 13(7th Form) Business Enterprise course and part of it is rasing capital to spend on manufacturing or making a product to sell etc...basicly learn how to make and build a business, Fortunately they has a great mentor who is Supporting them where ever possible and has helped them come up with this package for the Batman premiere down here in CHCH, now they just need abit more interest

I think there will be some other good stuff come up soon hopefully like signed merchandise from well known Rally Driver etc

  5. try find a mate in the trade or retail where they get discount, batteries have huge mark ups. my din battery for the 540i e39 cost like 240 or 290...cant really remember cause it was winter and i'd been in auckland for 2 weeks and needed the bloody car to move, but that was at COST from a hook up

  6. might find a bigger power bar and see how I go, i'm just using a wee 1/2inch one that came in a koken set.

the 1/4 turn I CAN get is piss easy then it hits resistance after that, no matter which way you try turn it.so with my very limited knowledge, Glenns idea sounds likely,

I'll take the tappet/rocker cover off in the next few days, if it does look like stuck valves, can you just soak with inox/crc/wd40 and tap them with a rubber mallet to try get some movement??

This'll teach me for not going out and giving it a turn once a week when I got it....lazyness doesn't pay kids!

  7. Hey guys, I have an M50 on engine stand in the garage... it's been sitting for awhile

I pulled the plugs out today and I can only turn it about 1/4 of a turn before it hits resistance either way

It's not a huge power bar which may not be helping, but the crank turns really easy for the 1/4 rotation before it hits resistance and then I can't keep going around

if it was sezied I wouldnt get any movement from the crank at all would it?

  8. Glenn, I think my Sister has 8 jars to sell to raise money/capital for her business course she's doing for year 13/7th form business or economics. i'll PM you her email address when I get it, and then you can deal with her direct if your still after it
