  1. Hi Guys

Question time - I sort of under stand what both do - Wasted (fires on both compression and exhaust) , Direct (fires as its timmed to fire)

OK, im wanting to get this sorted for when i upgrade to the turbo and just seeing what ECU's can do what is there advantages to both types

i can understand why people use wasted sparks on turbos to burn the excess fuel so more exhaust gas.

does direct spark have any advantages to this besides being able to fire multiple times.

So if anyone can shed some light would be appreciated

    Cheers

    kym

  2. Hay Bro

Ive done this on my E28

depending if you have the M20 or M30 engine dependant on what you use - either a 260 or 265 work fine no issues with the sensors

my box has a sensor on the side but isnt used, some have flywheel sensors so just watch out, depending on what engine you use.

change took me about 1 day cause i hadnt done it before - and i have the wiring informaiton to take out the start relay from the auto

AND DO make sure you use E28 Selector rods, gearshifter etc - as mine came from a e32 and had to get selector rod shorted, both Brent and Marty have 2nd hand ones but if you can afford get brand new stuff - and also make a descision on your flywheel (im using Twinplate bit on the heavy side but graps like nothing) and would love to see what a single plate can do.

    any questions let me know

    Cheers

    Kym

  3. On the Bimmer just running standard motronic, alfa doesnt have anything its running Carbs

Rotors have being replaced on both cars, Dizzy on alfa changed. on the Bimmer seems like it might be second hand (came with car and has writting on it but all connectors look fine and newish , new fuel filter (nearly went blind putting it in)

Tried diffrent types of spark plugs on the bimmer that i had arround no change - seems sick between 2-3.5k rpm could be the low ratio diff and cant afford to get it tunned not that i would trust neone in welly to do this - spec after the crap jobs ive seen arround on other cars

i think ultimatly im just a complainer and wont the car to run better than it should.

i had checked the resistance on the leads and changed them to spares i had and sometimes i notice a diffrence other times i dont

  4. Hi Guys

Im wanting to upgrade my ignition leads on my car

i know going wasted spark is prob the way to go but dont have the cash to do it on two diffrent cars spec seen one doesnt have a ecu and trying to get the correct timing would be hell for me

does anyone know a real good set of leads to get with least risistance - figure this maybe my issue for loss of power on both my cars

  5. Link are a reputable brand if you join there site enough people will actually answer questions you are having in relation to them

its around $1800 or bit less you can get them on trademe - very few places in nz are actualy distributors for link so check there site

something cheap go megasquirt - i ws going to go with link for my upcomming project but people are sawing me to megaquirt

had a few mates cars with links great unit but potential on somecars bit swayed dg a evo4 running evo 7 engine (evo 4 injectors) only doing 280hp

for 3k not worth it car is just running stock hp on 16psi boost ripped off, other than that good things but i do like the DIY of Megasquirt and its tunner simple

But defo have a talk to Gavin ill do that before i spend my $$ on the m30 cause want something that will last and can be upgraded

Links are good but not if you have to re-wire every car you put it into and pay 1k for a remap each time.

other ecu's other multiple memorys so more than 1 tune

  6. I have had enough issue with stuff like this on my car but its stock just cause of a few things ive hit LTSA up about eg emmision testing on a auto

basically easy if its a VTNZ get them to do the breake test if its certed and if it brakes anything then they will have to pay for the damages

still a certing issue with emmision testing and reving the auto to 2500rpm which on research was found it can destory the auto transmission doing that in nuteral - went in and explained this to them without attitude and told them any damage to my car in there possision - had to be fixed by them (changed there tune they just let it slide)

but look at the law/ legislation and if VTNZ damage your car in the process of standard testing i belive they have to pay to fix the damage

  7. Hi Guys

the http://www.schmiedmann.com website ive had a good look and can someone tell me why they are so cheap for parts most arnt OEM but are good i would say

    eg Radiator A=610MM

730I+IL M30 with manual transmission with aircondition - is 128 euro which works out to be about $$270 nz

    http://www.schmiedmann.com/7_series/E32/Sp...Page2.htm#pg393

this is might cheap for a radiator isnt it if you didnt mind the shipping to nz there are a whole lot of stuff and is it worth getting shipped over at the price - not that im going to buy it i do need to upgrade my radiator but was going to go custom for that to get exact size for my car

  8. Im not to sure about that - i throurt it was part of the pressure system for the radiator although ive plugged it up before and held it up to bleed some air

its a good question cause i was going to get a a custom radiator made and would hate for it not to work cause they use some weird pressure system to keep them working - instead of just pushing the water round.

    hopefully someone has the answer

  9. Think that shops still around - have to take a look

seems major failure down in wellington there seems to be more car places in Palmy than in wellington for performance mods, Carbs etc

really does me in i still remember when BMW themselves wouldnt look at my E28 became the only car i know that BMW would service for me - just charged me heaps for the same checks i had done on my car argghhhh

  10. Thats not actually to bad to be honest specially for what you got, and the ammount of people that seem to run them makes them a worthy product.

an im sure there will always be help on bimmersport if i get really stuck and the internet.

then i have failures - only get to see my car for the w.e's if im lucky a couple times a month, and have my son and partner both get pissd off if i spend to long on the car,

the fact it took 6 months to do a engine upgrade/manual conversion and get the car in avg running condition, which i could now do i two days seen ive sussed most of my wiring etc

but i think megasquirt is swaying me and when i have more money and enough time to read everything im sure i might get sucked into buying one

    Cheers

    guys

and yea should goto wasted spark im at a loss between 2-3500 rpm seems to chocke abit and then goes again

  11. Definatly worth a look into and $650 nz put into your ECU does sound pretty tempting, half the price of a link

but i would have to do alot of reading etc before i decided to get one cause knowing my luck i would screw something up lolz and then admitaly would really need someone to guide me along the way dont want to spend that much and kill it

when for 1500 you can get a link and install - has all the same fetures besides you dont have to put it together yourself

descisions, descisions thanks for the help tho will be up for debate when i decide to toss the motronic for something btter

  12. Ok this is going to be a dumb question

were is the best place to get Megasquirt close to NZ

and avg cost of installation to a car including risistors etc.

and it seems simple but how long does it take to learn im not the best electrician if you saw my wiring but its cause im lazy and alot of the time inebriated cause i would be keen if its cheap and will do eveything a aftermarket one will do.

and if dyno tuners can use it then i agree its properly worth a shot for the e28 to get her running better
