Dont buy a phone before you get over there, get one there and sign up for a semi decent plan (20 quid a month usually) and your phone will be free

It was a joke mate, good luck to anyone that wants to build/buy something before I build/buy it, there will always be someone out there with more money/less responsibilities than me, so fair play. With something like a personalised plate you have one chance. If you fail to take it then thats something you have to deal with. Why not find out who owns it and make them an offer. Youd be surprised how often that works.

Oh for god sake get over it. Its not yours until youve paid the reddies. Simple. Just for the record though, my plans are to build an Alpina C2 replica with a 2.7 engine rebuild but money is tight at the moment, so if anyone manages to do it before me (or god forbid buys the real thing) then Ill have your knee caps, alright

Well Ian and I tried to sort this out last night and it looks like new sensors are in order. The rear one has been cut at some point and soldered back together (but looks ropey) and the front has a loose connection. They arent expensive so replacements will be ordered. Ill have chat with the bloke sometime this week to sort out why he thinks it should fail. I initially didnt think it was a problem, especially seeing as the sensor is on way before the pads need changing so Ill argue that and see what he says. In the meantime I may try cutting the existing ones and looping them up to see if that does anything.

Nice one Rog, we'll be needing a holiday soon so you will be hearing from us

They failed it on the basis that its a warning light in full view of the driver. At the time (two weeks ago) the light would be on all the time. Now it comes and goes. I think the brakes and pads were done a few months before I bought it and was wondering if either the sensors hadnt been replaced properly (in which case it should be on all the time) or the pads just hadnt bedded in yet. I read yesterday that you can reset the light yourself by switching the ignition on but not starting it and having your foot on the brake for a minute....sounded a bit dodgy to me.

So, my 325 fails its wof because the brake lining warning light is on, it goes on and off all the time. I checked the brake pads when I put the Alpinas on it they all looked ok to my untrained eye. Now Ive seen the sensors off the car and only seen close up pictures of them on the car....so does anyone have a 'wider angle' picture of the assembly so I know exactly what Im looking for. Ill get the car up sometime this week but I was hoping someone might have a piccie Second thing is that I was sitting in it today with nothing switched on, pressed the brake pedal and heard a noise from under the passenger seat. Was just like you sweezing a teat (settle down at the back) definately air being pushed out and not sucked in. Any ideas ?

Mine was bolted through the metal of the car with metal grommets, or whatever they are called. In the end I used a drill bit slightly smaller that the grommet and drilled it out slowly until the front fell off and I could pull the back through the plate.

Well Ive found several people in the US who have had the same problem and they have said it came through there. I agree you should be able to spray water anywhere when the bonnets open, but when its closed it opens the vent up fully and if the seal between the vent and the bonnet isnt perfect then water can get in there. The bonnet on the e38 opens the vent and creates the seal as it shuts. The sound deadening on the bonnet around the vent was soaking aswell so Im pretty sure thats where its getting in. The first time I opened the vent there was plenty of water inside it and the rubber seal was soaking. Once Id removed the seal and played around with cleaning and removing the water I couldnt get it wet at all. Also the water in the cabin has stained the foam right along the air outlet than runs down there from the air intake and under the seat. Yes its only on the passenger side. The seal on the drivers is perfect and not a drop of water down the vent.

Its about time we had another ruck Clear out some of the old cobwebs !

Im pretty sure I know what it is after spending the afternoon with a hose over the car ! It looks like the water is coming in the cabin air intake through the bonnet vents. Im still not sure how air can get through but not water (normally) but I dont think it was sealing properly when the bonnet was shut and water was just getting in off the bonnet. I cant get the air intakes off because the plastic sits under the wipers and you need a special tool to get them off. I currently have the passenger seat out and the door trim and can get under the carpet but it is VERY stiff as its a perfect mould of the bottom of the car and the foam is very thick. The carpet is completely dry but the foam is drenched. So Ive played with the air intake and cleaned what I can get off and reseated all the seals etc and done several tests and it appears ok now. What I'll be doing this week is sticking the car in a mates garage with a dehumidifier and hope that I can get rid of all the water before testing it again. Its not going to be easy getting rid of the water though because the carpet is very firm and certainly cant be lifted easily so Ill see how we go.

Anyone know if the carpet on the e38's goes all under the center console in the same way the e30 does ? Ive found a couple of places on the web suggesting that after removing the passenger seat that the front half of the carpet will just remove with four clips under the center console but it doesnt appear to be that way in real life. Anyone also experienced water leaks from the cabin air intake ?

Old ? Choice, 36 a month before me

There was one recently on trademe for 600 I think. Cant remember if it was 2 or 4 door but you might be able to find it in the expired auctions and then see if it sold or not. Was beige or cream from memory.
-
Correct me if Im wrong but I think the Alpina ones extend to the sides beyond the boot over the side panels and they are also a flatter shape along the top....hard to describe I know !But they are very very similar.

Now if thats not worth a discount on one of your cars Bravo I dont know what is !!!!
-
Slap me if Im out of order here, but surely she has something better than money to offer
-
Hahaha, its looks like its sh4t itself on that last photo ! Sweet look though, very nice.Gus, I dont doubt that a genuine one will be worth a decent amount but we always over value things on here and in the whole time that kits been on TM there hasnt been one single bid (that I can remember), so to say its worth 1500 when no one is interested at 1000, for me, is a little over the top. Couldnt agree more on the fibreglass though. If your going to do it, do it right and save the money for the real thing.
-
Seeing as its been on TM for absolutely months, to say its worth 1500 is a little generous dont you think ?Its only worth what people are willing to pay and no-one has had so much as a sniff of it at a grand.
-
Damn....sweet 16....those were the days !

Yeah I shouldve mentioned that. I only do it this way if I want to get a picture onto BS which I assumed is what you wanted to do. I generally delete the small ones once Im done, I dont keep them for anything.
-
In windows. right click on photo and select 'send to mail recipient' you should then get a box asking if you wish to reduce the size of the photo or leave it as-is. Click make smaller then you get a new email message with the small photo in the attachment. right click on it and select save as, choose a directory and name cancel the new email message without saving and open the directory you just saved the small photo in and your done Im sure there are other ways but this is pretty quick and you can do it with more than one obviously.

Nath, I can tell you your discount was 30% for one lot of parts and 35% for the other
