heres a great write up if anyone considering stroking there m20
also good info about JE pistons and oil ring they had problems with which is good to know

cheers bravo can ya suggest were to get the urethane/nolathane mounts fromYes to all your questions.
Check your gearbox mounts as maybe theyve gone too. Check your driveshaft bearing and flexible coupling in case you wrecked one of them as well.
You can get urethane/nolothane gearbox and engine mounts. Easy to fit - lift the motor with a lift or a chain block or similar off the front lifting point. Doesn't have to be lifted far - you can leave all hoses etc attached. Replace the mounts, then get under the car, put a jack under the trans and do the trans ones.
Easy.

heres wat happened today to my engine mounts , after doing a few practice take offs for the drags in 2 weeks
i noticed after the 4th take off the car was vibrating in nuetral and overall felt differant, so i lifted the bonet to find the rubber engine mounts arent were they should be they have moved about 5-10cm and when i turn the car off theres a obvious rattle coming from below the gearstick, has any one experienced this and is it a easy enough to put new mounts in, also can ya get urethane engine and gearbox replacements
anyhelp appreciated
cheers shane

isnt a kompressor motor a merc motor, handles well thou
-
yeah thats a good point, motors done 320thou ive done at least 50thou of them probly due for h/d gkt which wont be cheap at mechanics,If the waterpump is leaking just replace waterpump, cambelt and tensioner, since these all have to be removed anyway, I would give it a new thermostat also. No need to touch the head gasket if theres nothing wrong with it.
mmmmm maybe its m50-52 time
-
You should be able to move the fan from side to side if the bearings in the pump are shot.
if it is just the pump should i bother with a new gasket set as well
-
no i havnt, will nowHave you checked that it isnt the water pump leaking?
cheers

car pr f/l e30 325
having issues with a coolant leak which i suspect to be a partially damaged h/d gasket at the front of the head where the 2 coolant pipes attatch 1 for block 1 for head i assume, first i thought 1 of the pipes had a split in it but checked all pipes all good, oil is not milky coolant is normal apart from some rusty coloured coolant but has always been that way, ive also read that pinking is a good sign of a damaged h/d gasket to
travelled to chch for the meet/cruise and and had to top up 3-4 times over 400 k cos the coolant light would come on engine temp would stay under half on hghway put when under load to pass temp creeped up just over half
any helpfull thoughts appreciated

There is a guy off trademe that sells them for like $100. Rebuilt starter motors and rebuilt alternators.
Check your ground strap from the oil pan to the chassis. That is a common bad ground and it's the main ground for the engine (Thus the starter motors ground). Even if it Looks good, It can be bad from oil and gunk build up. Try a jump cable from the oil pan to the chassis see if that changes anything, Thats a good way to test if the earth wire is bad.
its dry as a bone and tight that was my first check i done since the problem started
hows my diff , got a price yet mate

ok thanks glenn, if it is the starter would it be a good idea to det it rebuilt by my local bosch motor electricianIt may not be the starter. Could be a faulty ignition switch or voltage drop to the solenoid. You best get it checked first. You dont need to take the manifold off to do a starter
-
my 86 325 is having starting issues when i start the car it nothing happens for a few seconds then all of a sudden kicks into life, also after long highway runs it wont start at all after the car has been turned of briefly all ya here is the fuel pump, and do i have to remove intake manifold to take the starter out,
any help appreciated

hey everyone, looking to put a new engine in my e30 any suggestion on what to go for and what will fit. does anyone no if its posissble to drop a lexus v8 in them, and how much modification needs to be done.
thanks mark.
yes it can be done and has, theres a member on here thats done it aka Riley
the more common swap is the m50/m52 motor from e36 or e34 or a m30 3.5 big six
search projects or forum you should find Rileys car there somewere, his is a tidy lexus swap

Yup - fully agree with Doug.
Crockett, sometimes you can be a real dick, howabout you do that somewhere else, and just get back to being semi-sensible on here.

Thought i'd spark up a bit of a debate about smoking. We all know it's bad for us, yet heaps of people still do it.
Do you smoke and why/why not?
Personally, no I don't smoke and I think it's a dirty habit. What are your reasons?
Please keep it clean guys.
