  1. bulbs for the warning lights are LEDs IIRC on these clusters. and the test cluster works fine on my friend's e38 oil light lights up.

2 -3 weeks ago the oil light was lighting up but after that it just didnt light up at all.

possible problem would be the sensor itself or a short circuited wire. gahh now have to trace the bastard down the fender :'(

so to test wire just bridge 2 points on the harness connector while engine is on ignition 2?

will hunt it down and let you guys know..

  2. if you need quality oem parts go to gavin at euro italia up at north shore :) fair pricing for OEM parts :) already bought lots of stuff from him :)

he gives you little chocolates as well :)hehe and his big dog that welcomes you:)

so pissed off i got charged 60 bucks to get a bushing pushed in :( one of the things i cant do at home :( oh well but quality parts from him :) and gives discount too :)

  3. never had a problem with WOF inspections on my e38. well mine is 740i. its a bit rough on the outside (high kms) but purrs like a kitten.

only brought it once to a garage before but that was only for a trans service as i do the other bits and pieces myself.

may i ask what was wrong with your e38 that mechanics had to shove you off?

yeah ray is a good man :) sponsor over here as well :)

I still find the 38 one of the best 7 series shapes / designs. imo design went down hill after the e38 for the 7 series line :(

  4. swapped my friend's e38 cluster (to eliminate possible cluster bulb problem) to my one and the oil light still does not come up on my car at ignition 2. isn't it suppose to light up red along with the alternator battery light at ignition 2?

  5. a week ago i had the red oil light come up. i checked oil and it was at the right level.

once i restarted the engine it was gone. a few days later it comes on but a bit dimmer and came off again.

then i noticed this morning that on ignition 2 only the battery was lighting up.

have opened up the cluster. the bulbs at the back are all good but the thing is, i opened up the whole thing and the lights for the battery, abs, oil level etc are all little tiny leds?

could it be a faulty oil level sensor? what do you guys think?

  6. Ok so cousin's 318i e46 has a lot of oil in the radiator. car has been at the mechanics and said there is no water in the engine oil so probably its from the transmission.

transmission specialist just called and said there is no water in the transmission to suggest a leak.

anyone got an idea to what the problem might be?

  7. e38 m60

it started telling me something was wrong 4 days ago only got around to it today. have not driven her since then

Car died on idle at a intersection. took a good 15 secs cranking to start it. it started and i went straight home. on the way home nothing out of the ordinary. car reved up high easily but idle a bit jerky.

tried starting the car today and it keeps on turnning but does not catch up until battery was about to run out of juice so i hooked up jump leads to the engine to a running car still wont catch just keeps turning. hooked up my home carsoft diagnositc and inpa kit both says no errors logged.

any help and advice would be appreciated :)

  8. Speaking of radiator replacement Silverdale Radiators in Auckland: according to their website do E39 (suitable 2.8 and 4.4ltr engine size) for $295. I had an E34 540 split it's radiator. I forget the price but think I was quoted OEM around $600-$700. Didn't know about the Silverdale place at them time. Anyone had any experience with their radiators? Website doesn't mention where they are made but says not from China.

    Worth looking at...

bought an e46 radiator from them a few months back. its still in good shape

  9. i dont have a problem with them going business class there for "legitimate reasons"

Lets think of it this way. they are representing NZ on a meeting of world leaders. We should present them as our leaders and that said, they should arrive to their destination fresh and relaxed somewhat.

Have you guys experienced a 24hours (or somewhat a long flight with lots of stop overs) economy flight?? its a mission +1 and some more. i was drained when i got to my destination.

and it does say some of the costs are covered by the hosting government.

BUT i would be pissed if they used the travel budget to travel for personal reasons around europe for a week.
