  1. This is good. All the e21 information just says to use a e28 sub frame and associated parts.

Is there any difference in how the shock mounts ?

I also read today that there are different angles on the arms .

Basicly I want what ever will give me the best handeling result.

I have to cut the ends off next to the arm mounts and weld the e21 mount tabs on, change the diff mounts, hand brake cables

I will send you a pm

  2. Hello guys.

I was hoping my first post in a few years would be of me telling you all about my new E21. But I don't have one. Missed a couple on trade me recently.

If any one knows of one that might be up for grabs.

Will travel with in upper north island for a good one but prefer Auckland and sourounding areas. May even travel further with some planning and drive it home.

I have up to 3 ish to spend.

I don't mind a bit of work. If a body was straight I might look at one with out a motor

Send me a pm if you know of one many thanks.

  4. Hi

A friend of mine over here in london is selling his e36 b25 ALPINA. It Seems to have all the right stuff on it, from the gearknob, wheels, leather sport interior, and the all important plaque on the dash. Its black and just had a chunk of cash spent on it clutch, springs. Im real keen on it. If i was to buy it and ship it home would it be worth the money, IE shiping costs, etc. i estmate to get it home is going to cost me about 17000.00 NZD may be a bit more with duty.

What do you guys think. i know it will be a rare car back home but would all the effort be worth it.

Any one have any idea what it would be worth in the new zealand market.

  5. Looking at importing some stuff from the uk and germany and was wondering if anybody had any costings from stuff uve imported or know of any good freight companies to use

also anyone know off hand wot duties need to pay or can car parts come in for frwee?

There is a celing value that if the value of the parts is below then you can get around the tax, its only about $200 nzd from memory. any thing over that has to have GST paid on it. I think there is a small loop hole that lets gifts come in with out the gst being paid but i am not sure about this.

It would be a good idea to do some reseach on this as its easy to get stung on this. Call customs or check out their web site.

Let us know what you find out. am looking to send some parts home from here (london)for a car i am wanting to build when i return. i am looking to build a fiat 124coupe CC or a e30 when i get home so being able to find out that sruff would be handy.

I also posted a thred on the for sale area as i have been working in a parts shop over here. I may be able to help you out with the parts from the uk.

  6. Hi my name is Brent.

Im from auckland and moved to london this year, meaning i had to leave my E21 behind.

I have been working in a parts shop over here specalising in euro cars. so have access to a very large selection of parts for most BMW. esp. 3 series as there are just so many of these on the road.

having spent some time working for APPCO back home i am blown away by how cheep the parts are over here. The size of the market and purchase numbers and cost of the pound is so kind to the english.

is any one out there interested in maybe doing some group buys. I am still playing with the idea. i would need some sort of idea of what you boys were needing. I could then price up freight and let you guys know.

this is just a idea. let me know if any one down ther is interested.

    i can get

lowering springs, e46 and e36 msport front arms and bumpers, angle eyes, white indicators, hid head light conversion kits, clutches, shocks, and so much more.

let me know if any one is keen.

    Brent

I also have acess to a good wrecker so there may also be the option of getting 2nd hand LSDs and manual gear boxes.

  7. :( I have to sell my e21. I am going on my OE early in the new year and do not have any where to store it. i can store it but i dont know when i will be back so the best thing is to sell it, hopefully to some one that will look after it keep this increasingly rare bmw alive.

I got it about 6months ago. i have fitted a set of subaru seats to it since i have had it.(the factory seats are possably the worst seats i have owned.)

Befor me the car was owned by a family that brought it new from woods of bournmouth england.

since 2004 it has had the brakes, head, carb, powerstearing completly rebuilt. the rear muffler replaced. in total since 2004 it has had approx $10,000 spent in servicing and repairs.

the interior is mint, no cracks in dash.

the body is in need of a little paint which is going to be completed befor sale. one guard, bonnet and a small spot under the rear tail light.

It has the m20 carb motor. and rear swaybar that is not avalable on the 320i

It only has 87000 miles on the clock

as far as i can tell it only has two rust spots. and both are very minor. will do these befor it is painted.

i have fitted a electric fan and as said subaru legacy seats(not recros)

I have also updated the headlights to h4 bulb semi sealed units. so it now has x4 low beams and x4 high beams. the factory lights are like candles.

the grill and kidneys are blacked out. and the turn siginals are smoked.

i am selling the car with the factory turbine 13" alloys. with very good rubber.

i also have a e36 bumperskin and iron ready for paint that almosts bolts straight on. and looks good on.

i also have a set of 15" bbs 2peace rs basket weaves with 205 rubber them. that i will sell with the car for $500 extra

I have seen these on trade me with 3x the miles and in much poorer condition for $2-$2500.

I am not unrealistic about how much it is worth. you will be hard pressed to find another e21 in this kind of origional condition. it has not been rebuilt or restored. it is in origional!.

as said earler i want this car to go to a classic/bmw enthuist. some one who is going to keep it in the same conditionif not better condition than it is now. This would make a great base for a classic race car.

I am in no hurry to sell it. any one serous about the car can call me on 0211601341.

    Will post some pics soon

  8. Ryan

Thats why i put "mostly" as i knew someone would bite. You are correct some are good, but i dont know how many times i have been in asked a question and been given the wrong answer or been looked at with a blank "what the F#@K are you talking about look. and the question has been real simple.

One good parts guy to know is barry at euromarketing. He is a bmw nut.

  9. I have a catch can with a drain at the bottom and one near the top.

I plumbed the bottom one back into the sump. I drilled a hole through the centre of the sump plug and welded a barb on to it. So i did not have to modify the sump.

Dude. That sounds scary. What happens when a rock or curb, any thing hits the plug. it will break off and drain your sump, if you dont pic it up in time you will F*&K your motor. It may never happen. you may bee sweet. but i would be paranoid every time i heard a bump under the car.

  10. Sooo ghetto lol

    Ok suppliers of boss kits.

Autoquip marketing on diminion rd in auckland, same building as segedin auto parts has tham. i had one in my hand there about 2 weeks ago. i am thinking they are about 95inc.these guys bring in sportline.

Griffith equipment also have them in the saas brand, they are listed in the catalogue and supercheep has the catalogue ring griffiths in olive road penrose and get a retail price, then go back to supercheep and talk to the manager.

PS never trust supercheep staff they are mostly all dislexic monkeys who would not know how to use a catalogue even if there mom showed them. that goes for most repco staff as well.

  11. has any one had experiance with msd ignition systems on m20 2.5

    any help would b great

    Hi

Im new to bimmer sport and saw this so had to jump on in.

I have spent far to many hours with my head in a MSD cataloge. And as my mind is alyays trying to convert stuff for V8 to 4cyl jap stuff. I came up with the following idea. and cant see why it wont work for the m20. I sold it to a couple of guys (AND GOT IN TROUBLE FOR IT.) and had good feed back. It takes a little machine work, but very little and a little DIY mentalaty..

I was looking at a "magic eye" type conversion one day and was not to impressed as to how it fitted and the fact that it relyed on a plactic wheel that was not located very well at all. The next day a custy oredred a couple of parts off me and while looking them up i found some bits, and formulated a plan.

    The Plan

You will need the following parts. all from MSD

    Magnetic pick up, msd84661

Reluctor msd ???? ring Jamie at pioneer auckland he knows it as it is not in the catalog

A MSD ignition unit such as a 6AL

A length of MSD lead, Boots, Terminals.

And a MSD blaster coil msd8202

remove the guts out of a factory dist.

A plate needs to be made up, or modify the factory one, this plate is for mounting the magnetic pick up on. Slot the holes on this for fine adjustments to get the gap correct at assembely

Remove the shaft out of the dizzy.

At this point a some modification is needed..

Done carefully the reluctor will retain its balance.

The reluctor will been to be fitted to the shaft. Turning down the shaft or making a collor, os the reluctor is SQ and firm.

at this point a small issue arises. Avance. Depending on the distributor and the factory ignition system Some may be able to retain the mechanical advance, some may not. If not MSD have many electronic advance units designed for NOS and Turbo so somthing would work for your needs.

Now rebuild the distributor using, the modifid shaft, and plate with the msd Magnetic pick up fitted. a new cap and rotor. install in the engine.

Run the wiring to the 6AL, Fit the MSD blaster 2 coil, Make up some new leads out of the boots termanls, and lead( Very easy, using a knife, vice, lead crimper, silicon spray and some time.)

WAck it all on, a little fine tuning will be needed.

But what you will get Is a moden msd ignition system, soft touch Rev limit, And a cleaner running, more powerfull engine.

    Notes

The 6Al will burn out your factory coil, They cant handle the Grunt.

Your factory leads will burn out your 6AL. MSD leads are best in any applacation any way.

If you are already running after market engine management you may think you are sweet (esp. you turbo guys). I would still at least run a 6Al (or simmilar). The EM will do all the good stuff, Advance, retard, etc. But you will find it will not boost your spark out put, You will proberbly have find your spark is still running at factory strength, and once the revs get up and the boost comes on, What spark you have will be having trouble keeping up.

If that all sounds like to much work, buying a 6al a set of msd leads and a blaster coil will give you good results. it will run off the factory dizzy(some need a siginal converter but very rarely)

Let me know what you think. I am planing on doing this my self once i get some cash and finish my body.
