Ok thanks Glenn I know of a BMW specialist close enough but always busy I will see if I can make an appointment. Thanks!

I think I am the culprit indeed Glenn. I live in Jamaica. The scanner/ programmer was bought from one of the Middle Eastern countries but I believe it is made in China. The link to it is here: http://www.autoboss.net/en/pV30.asp My question is can I play around with the scanner again to fix it and wouldn't it be better if I knew what caused the problem first; well I know I caused it but specifically what did I do wrong?

I serviced my car today, 2002 530i (E39) and then used a scanner/ programmer (Autoboss 3000) to reset the service light. I let the car sit for about an hour and then decided to test drive it. When I started it I noticed that the ATSC and ABS lights were on. I thought they would go out after awhile but after driving for five minutes they were still there. I then used the scanner to check the codes I was getting and they are: A/C 1 fault (water valve, left) ABS/ASC 1 fault (valve relay fault) DME/ DDE Motor Electronics 1 fault (Anti tampering fault) I must point out that I had gone into a menu for the anti tampering section because my electronic key lock has never worked and I wanted to reset that. I also reset all codes that had come up, but the indicators still show. I also used the programmer to check the circuitry of the ASC and the button itself turns on and off but the indicator does not go out like it used to. I probably should have pointed out also that the car had no fault indicators before today. Can anyone tell me what else to check or what could actually be the fault?

Thanks but I'm in Jamaica so I'm not sure if I can get SLX LL01, I have never heard of it. I should be able to get the Shell. What about Mobil 1 any good or best to stick to SLX or Shell?

I was checking and didn't find anything to tell me which grade oil I need for my car. The owners manual did not help much either. I have a 2002 530i; can anyone tell the grade I should buy?

Hey let me know if you got the re-programming thing to work because I am having similar problems. I think there maybe something wrong with something in mycar; I really don't know what to do anymore other than carry it to the dealer.

What's your price?

The right hand lens of my 2002 E39 530i wing mirror is damaged. The tint has gotten dark. How do I know which one to buy to replace it. I read that some lens are heated so how do I know if mine is like that?

Hold on Camera Doctor are you saying the keys with the light in them that flashes when you press any button is the incorrect key for EX Japan cars?
-
I'm noticing a similar thing with my car but it goes away after a few minutes.

Hey Andy it is NOT the diamond shaped one and I changed the batteries for one key but the other was fine. I got the car from the original owner without the key remote working. He said he never got it to work either. I will be carrying it to a BMW specialist today so I will update. quote name='andy_e39' date='Jun 28 2011, 12:34 AM' post='416966'] Thank you very much!! I can confirm this worked for a Japanese imported E39 (NOT the diamond key shape key) I tried all the other methods but this one worked first go! Key loses sync with car if changing battery took over 1 minute or unlock button is pressed 1000 times out of range. POINTING AT THE RED CLOWN NOSE DOES HELP. -Andy

Glenn to reassociate the key is it all about the time to do each step? If none of the keys can open the car with the buttons do you use the process described or one I saw where you turn the key to position 2 five times and then do the other steps? How do you know when you have not done a step correctly, for instance when I hold the unlock button and then press the lock button three times and then release the unlock button, the red light on the key flashes 10 or 11 times then nothing. The locks do not operate so can I assume that I made a mistake somewhere?

Thanks! I will try that right now.

Thanks for that info kiwiland. Jochen, it is in fact the older key with the big red circular clown nose so I guess it is IR; can the clown nose be damaged and if so how would you test it? Should I just but a diagnostic tool for the car?
-
Ok cool. I think mine has 18" that came on the 2005 530i, probably should upload a photo.

Well Jochen I tried every single procedure I could find on Google and nothing has worked. One of my keys had dead batteries, I have since replaced them and nothing. I now wonder if some part could have been damaged or I am still not doing it right but I even watched a video on Youtube and followed it exactly! My fuel door actuator locks works fine and I even disconnected it and tried just to be sure. It would be nice to get it working but I feel defeated right now; by the way I noticed a little sensor looking thing sticking out of my vents on top of the dashboard is that the sensor for the remote?
-
Hey Mike yours is as clean as mine! What size rims are on it? Do you have any problems with the key remote?
-
No, Jamaica is coming from British rule so we are right-hand drive. I think my car is from Japan because I see a JPN under the speedometer. Oh well, I guess I will just save up and buy a Dynavin although I doubt I will get maps for Jamaica either. On another note Jochen, can the keys for the car be damaged in terms of they can open the doors and start the car but can't open it remotely? I called my dealer and they told me just to check the keys will cost $51 USD and the keys could have been damaged. My remote open doesn't work and I have tried everything listed to re-initialize already.
-
Hey Jochen as I was saying to CMRADR I won't really get much benefit from a US/ Europe version NAV unit cause I have no maps available for Jamaica; but what I want to know is can I upgrade this unit with a new splash screen. I will be fine with that.

My car is a 2002 530i which was destined for Japan I think. It has a navigation computer in the trunk labeled DVD Navigation II system. Is it safe to assume that this is a MK4 system? I also want to know how do I check the OS version on it, I tried entering the mode that allows you to change the tuner and got something saying 3-2 70 is this the OS version or just that of the radio?
-
Dubman I watched the last video quite a few times and followed it exactly but I'm not getting the lock and unlock confirmation just my remote light flashes about 10 times and then nothing. I will disconnect my fuel door actuator later and re-try, will post the results.
-
Thank you! I will view this and try it. I checked all my fuses today and they are all fine. It is either I'm not folowing the procedure correctly or something is wrong with my DWA.
-
Glenn I tried this exact procedure last today. The car locks don't respond and nothing shows on the "clown nose".

I finally collected my car yesterday (2002 530I) and the original owner told me from he got the car the remote button have never worked to lock or unlock the car. He said he got one key (master) from the original owner and bought another from the BMW dealer here in Jamaica. Both keys are master keys with the transponder in them. The original key he got has dead batteries but they both start the car and unlock everything. On the newer key, the light on the key comes on when pressed. The DWA (clown-face) does not respond at all. I tried all of the methods listed to initialize the key and nothing, no responses of doors locking and unlocking. I do get the flashing light on the key but that is it. I also read about the fuel door actuator problem and although my fuel door actuator doesn't close that snug it seems like it works because with Central locking engaged using the button inside, the fuel door is locked. I however for peace of mind, disconnected the power for the actuator and tried the process all over with the same result; can someone point me to which other spots I can troubleshoot? I should also point out that the person I bought it from told me that he carried it to the BMW dealer and they were unable to get it working either. My keys are the two button remote. I have some questions for anyone with the knowledge: 1. How do you know if your DWA is working? 2. When the light on the key is flashing after you have held the unlock button and pressed lock button 3 times and released, is it trying to comunicate with the DWA or some other system?
