I expect most people here know, but just in case, the US M3 have an M54 based motor making 'only' 240hp, with a single throttle body.  They are good (I've driven one at length) but don't have the raw experience of the S50B30 or B32.

You know I knew someone was going to post this! 😆

At least we didn’t have someone breathlessly post “IT’S NOT A REAL M3!” - it’s made by BMW and is has the M3 badge…

  2. I remember rubbishing the price on the 49K one but they do seem to be going up in value in the US. However, you would always expect that to be higher value with LHD and a bigger market. I guess this is a similar one but with less miles and via a dealer:

Then a couple of others which are more to this price range:

I recommend Peter Burke at East Auckland BMW - I know you're looking for someone central, but he's a bit of a guru with E46 M3's. Plenty of motorsport experience also (including with the E46 platform).

I’ll ask the silly question - don’t you just dial in to what the software tells you the car should be? Or is there a lot more to it than that?

I’ve had my F30 done at Auckland City BMW and it seemed fine…. To be at least which is probably not a good test!

  4. Love to know what they paid out on the trade...

I often wonder if a dealer trades cars like this for a lot less than the price we see here (obviously). They stick it up for $49K to see if anyone bites and wants to negotiate. If they don’t shift it within a few months, they push it off to another dealer or auction and still pick up their trade and a bit of margin.

Depends what special is to you.  I had an E60 M5 and It was pretty good.  Moderately special I guess.

Granturismo S - Only gripes are the seats, sticky old sh*t in the interior and having to deal with Winger Maserati.  Average joe's look at you like you are special AF.

-911 if you don't mind automatics.

-There was an Alpina B7 for sale a while ago and that looked quite nice.

This looks pretty sick, but I'm not sure it's properly special:

Audi needs more brown! 😆 Man, that interior is an acquired taste.

If people are talking big saloon cars, the XJ with the 5L would have to be there and the S63...

    +1 on E46 M3 or maybe an M235/40i

Alternatively, Porsche. Could get a 996 or a later Cayman for $50k.

This is super nice. Local, too

Glad I’m not the only one who was thinking this... you could pick up an early 2000s 911 for that money (996) - the headlights are not to everyone’s taste but they are great cars.

Similar thing happened to me in Auckland years back.  Took the 530d into North Shore BMW for a Winter Check up and they forgot to tell me all the things they had found wrong.  Including bald rear tyres.  I sent it in there because I didn't have time to check it myself.

Anyway we randomly won a $300 voucher for BMW merch right after we complained.

It’s not obvious to you when you have two bald rear tyres on a car with that much torque?

They should tell you, yes. But come on... you should also know.
