  1. I'm with Vero and find them to be really really good...

Insurance for under 25 was under $1k for the 2001 e39 539i and the 2008 toyota highlander was $1100.

And as of september this year it just got a little cheaper, i turned 25 hehe :P

Vero allows me to take it anywhere i want for repair, no questions asked!

  2. True, no idea where to start looking with regards to the big brake kit... Brand new is just loopy money! Definitely would be nice though.

Next time you see me stop me and say hi :)!

Yeah will do, i will be in either one of two cars, an E39 530i silver with big "Babies On Board" sticker at the back, or an 2008 Toyota Highlander silver with computer wholesaler stickers on the back.

  3. New rotors to be installed this weekend :)!

Hopefully give the center a fresh lick of pain before I slap them on.

Brakes looks nice there, you should get a big brake kit and full up most eh wheel, hehe....

OT: Oh yeah, several times i've visted Christchurch on business i see your car driving around Columbo Street. I usually head up atleast once every two months. I have to say your E36 looks in very Mint condition!

  4. Just asked a Cop friend of mine, and he said they can deduct demerit points if the driver can be identified or if someone (ie boss) states that you were driving at the time. If it is excessive speeding they may further investigate the case and one can lose a licence.

  5. A E39 530I should have pre cat and after cat 02 censors (4 in total). You cannot remove that cats in that configuration. It will run too lean and damage the engine. You could however fit larger higher flow aftermarket cats. We have used american made cats fitted by Pit Stop and supplied by Chase Exhaust systems. Once fitted the live data readings from the 02 sensors must be checked. In saying that. Recently we had a problem with an E46 318I where we tried two different cats on the car and were still getting error codes and the rear 02 sensor was unstable with high readings. Reluctantly we had to fit an OEM cat to fix the problem. We are still waiting for the prognosis from the cat supplier. I would suggest that if your cats are OK......leave them. If vehicles only use pre cat 02 sensors then there is no problem with complete removal.

Thanks for that Glenn, i think my final decision is that i'll leave the cat as is, seems like a lot of hassle with regards to the O2 sensors.

As for the mid muffler can some one shed some information please.

  6. Yes sure do.

The next area visited was under the bonnet. The motor got a new air filter, valve cover gasket, charcoal activited filters for the A/C. The dealer replaced the drive belt tensioner set up with the lastest type I believe it's hydraulic as the old one being mechanical develops a ticking noise I was informed which mine had. While having a look around the engine noticed a few other bits and pieces that will need attention so will have to revisit this area later on.

The front seats came out next for repadding as the drivers one had collapsed and the side cover ended up being broken, holds all the electric controls for the seat. Big mistake getting the side covers from the dealer you have to buy both left and right at around $180.00.

Then the instrument cluster was next the old missing pixel trick. After a chat with Glenn this was sent to Shane at Auto Electronic Services. The repair, freight, g.s.t $330.00. Hope I spelt Shane's name correctly

Had a few items that had need of replacement in the centre console area, wood panel cover for cassette player, centre console tray has fag lighter in it. These items have now been returned to their rightful place so the interior is no longer a mess of screws and plastic bits.

Put some pics up with your changes !!! especially work in the engine bay.

  7. This is the package they came in all up about $100.00 from the states. These you remove the old bulb holder and replace it with these hook up the wires and turn them on thats it.

They are white in colour beats the old yellow one's by far.

Can you give me a link etc to where you purchased it from please.

  8. wont change the sound much , change the rear box if you want a better sound otherwise you could just end up with a drone sound.

also if you remove the cats , you might have to get the ecu reprogrammed as if there is no cat there the O2 sensors will make the engine run lean and might burn it out .

I have changed the very last muffler already to an Remus. Thing is i dont want it too noisy becuase i often have my two kids in the car.

Can you comfirm about the ECU thing? Or can some one confirm it.

How about if i just change the mid section muffler to a straight through pipe, will that be substantially louder ? Becuase if it going to be then i won't bother doing it. And will there be any HP gain?

  9. Hey guys, i'm getting some headers installed later this week and was just curious as to whether there will be any perfomance increase if i removed the cat and installed a straight tru pipe?

Also would it make it much louder or just minimally louder.

Whats the law at in regards to cars with no cat.

And out of interest how much performance would there be if i removed the cat and the second muffler? Would this be much much louder. (Actually, is there a second muffler in the e39 530i?)

Do i need to worry about O2 sensors or any sensors for that matter while removing the cat + muffler.

The car is an E39 530i.

Current mods are just Remus exhaust and Blitz pod filter.

Headers are already on the way so looking forward to fitting and trialing those, from Wayne :)

(will give you a dyno result as soon as they arrive and we fit them on)

Slotted/Drilled brakes are sitting in teh garage waiting to be installed at the same time also.

Any help would be much much appreciated.

  10. Where did you get teh replacement LED angel eyes ? I'm looking at the ones from the state that are direct replacements and a hell of a lot brighter. Is yours brighter or just a different colour?

I just put some 8000K HID replacement bulbs in my e39 and the colour is awesome! Altho you do lose a little light, but it is a lot more reflective on signs. Hence why i'm going to leave the high beam as the standard yellow colour so i can still see well at high beams.

I've got the silver version of your car. Post up some more whole car pics so i can see what else you've done :)

  11. Yep they are fully interchangable, just ring around some wreckers in auckland and you can pick up a whole set pretty cheaply, there was a full set avaialble for an e39 for $200 a little while back.
