  1. 7547 kbps is a fallback bitrate when your modem is connected to but not compatible for ADSL2+.

You can force ADSL1 through to connect at 7616 kbps or download more recent firmware to make this modem compatible.

Alternatively, you can request Telecom to switch off interleaving OFF on your line which the modem will recognise and sync up at ADSL2+ rates. This is really a work around though and I recommend upgrading the modem firmware or purchasing a new modem.

New Tompsom modem is running 12500kbps so a big improvement. A cabinet is going in near us June next year so then we should get even better speeds.

  2. No, no no. If it doesn't have independent diff locks, it's a soft roader and will get stuck on wet grass.

I would never EVER buy a BMW / Mercedes / Porsche / luxury brand 4x4 for anything other than sitting higher on the road than everyone else. They're all large heaps of sh*t at the end of the day.

Got to be better than a Honda Odyssey V6 4WD though!

  3. You could get a pretty good E53 X5 4.4i or 4.8i or even 4.6is if you lucky for round that area.

    Here's a pretty good 4.4i http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-320785443.htm

Better looking than the merc I think as well as interior but they sound just as good when you boot it.

Been down to Jeff Gray on Friday and checked out a couple of X5's. I agree they are better looking than the Merc so I'm now looking at an X5.

Haing just fitted Nav to my 740i I think I'll get one with Nav already fitted so am looking at a 2003 onwards model.

    Thanks

  4. Finally got it all wired in today and am very happy to be able to say every thing is working perfectly.

Rear subs: The improvement to base is very noticable, but without sounding out of balance - exactly what I was hoping for. 'We come one' by Faithless is awesome!

The Pioneer reference series amps have made a noticiable improvement to the sound - and thats with the original door speakers still in place. Will get professionals to mount the door speakers.

The reversing camera is also working great.

The MKIII naigation system is also fully functional and we will use it tomorrow to find our way to a football tornament in Palmerston North tomorrow.

I'll take some photos and post up here in the next day of two. I can now get all the boot trim off the spare bed and into my car which will make my wife happy!.

Lot of thanks to Hotwire who hs proides guidance, technical adice, and even tested my navigation set up after i boiught it, and before i took delivery. I've enjoyed this project and will now have to work out what my new one will be.

Exhausts through the bumper, H&R springs, transmission fluid flush are all on my wish list.

  5. I'm looking arround at suitable replacements for the Honda Odyssey. The Honda Oduyssey is a fine family MPV but it isn't exactly a perfromnance machine, and while distinctly lacking much perfromance, it's pretty thirsty on the gas (55 litres for 400 km).

I'm quite interested in the Mercedes Benz AMG ML55. Pretty fast for a SUV, and damn they sound great. WHile having full independant suspension they still have a separate frame so good off road capability. Only down side seems to be they have an enormus plastic housing for the spare wheel inside the back of the car. Not sure why as the lesser ML models don't waste space like this.

The price of these seems to be getting reasonable - for example this on is $30,000.

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=322389744

Is there some thing better out there for the money?

Also considering a later model 2004/5 ML350 which has a 3.7 litre V6, and 7 seats (the back 2 seats are removable).

E: Fixed link for the listing challenged ;-)

  6. No problems, this forum is quite the sh*t hole at times.

I couldn’t find “Chances guy†details as it’s been a few years, he does run it under a different entity out of his chances office in Papakura and im sure if you called he would be helpful, I don’t fancy your luck getting it any cheaper than parallel importers though.

Paul Money is good also, I have always got a fair deal there with a bit of haggling and a wad of cash.

TBH I would only buy locally for the simple reason if anything goes wrong you have back up, I have had two pioneer head decks sh*t the bed on installation and was lucky both times they were fixed or replaced. Well worth the extra $100.

It’s a good head deck though so stick to your guns, the only alternative deck I would look at would be the JVC KD-R716 it has the same features, is cheaper and is arguably more user friendly.

Try 'Hyper' - it's near Sylvia park and also online. I've got excellent prices fro Pioneer gear from them. They are Pioneer dealers and undercut Paul Money by $650 on each of my Pioneer Amps ($999 at Pauls, $349 at Hyper - with free delivery). It was a special but damn they do have good prices at times.

  7. Heaps of action in Japan with the F1 and little bit of carnage at Bathurst =) And we're not even finished Qualifying.

Dunno if anyone is that interested in F1 but still something to talk about if ya do because of all the rain and debates over qualifying ( thats on Sky Sport at 6pm :D ) Would be cool to have some F1 Fans to talk to, hardly anyone in NZ that cares for it =)

    post-5250-1286597350.png

And Jason Richards at Bathurst arsing into the barriers and Whincup t boning him 20 sec's later =) Anyone think Murphy can do as well as he did when he set that record or do ya agree with me when I say he's becoming a has been =)

    post-5250-1286597323.png

Into my F1 - went to Monaco F1 in 2008. Great experience.

  8. Not wanting to be a d*ck, but I smell something fishy. That's an American market 335i in your picture. You can tell by the front amber reflectors on the wheel arches, something Euro market cars don't have. So I'm picking the car is left hand drive... and because the 335i is not a "special interest vehicle" it can't be registered in New Zealand without being converted to RHD.

And now your pic has myteriously disappeared... hmmm.

I note he hasn't been back on since you posted LOL. Personally if I was going to pretend to have an car it would be something a bit more expensive like a Lambo. A 335i would be the daily driver.

  9. You tube link

Pretty badass even though the video is lame.

    Noisy little bugger though:

Pretty cool - apparently the concpert was for citys where you park outside and then walk or take public transport to the office. One of their concept cars has space for 1 of these in each of the front doors.

However not good for the general health of people who don't walk enough as it is.

Hi Pjay. Thanks for the help. I learnt something today! You are a handy person to know, and with great taste in cars too. Telecom are shipping me a replacement Thompson modem.

  11. 7547 downstream? Upgrade your firmware

    http://telecom.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1360

Yep the data rate is 7547 and there is no help I can find on the Telecom site related to this specific problem, which I can tell from looking at the web is a problem that ocurrs often enough.

My modem is the D-link DSL-G604T Generation II. It has a hardware version of C3 and firmware version of V3.00B01T01.TX.20070315 (dates from 15th of March 2007). The D-link support site only finds the older vertical standing G604 when I search support, but when I made an email support case it listed the GenII model.

Got to wonder how many users this may be affecting. Syncing at 7547kbps when it should be closer to 24000kbps is quiet a fail.

  12. I don't know about anybody else but my internet connection speed seems to have doubled over the past couple of weeks. I have noticed when downloading that when i am expecting something to take 1/2 an hour its done in a few minutes. Don't get me wrong this is fantastic but is dangerous when you are on the pro plan with only 40 gig as that can get chewed up very quickly when you are getting speeds like this.

    Posted Image

Damn - checked my Dlink modem and even though it's running ADSL 2plus modulation the sync speed is only 7.5Mbps. Thats basically what I got when it was running on ADSL1 modulation. I guess I have to call Telecom and ask for an explanation. I have heard of this happening but that was supposed to be modems supplied companies other than Telecom.

  13. We had swine flu this year, which was nice. Similar symptons, including my partner dislodging the cartilage from her ribs.

Apparently the flu jab would have made minimal difference due to the virus mutating.

    Only lasted about 6-8 weeks.

 that doesn't sound too good - thats got to make the eyes water - easpcially coughing after she dislodged the cartilige. I also didn't like the part about it lasting 6-8 weeks!

  14. They will sell for what they are worth to someone. I have infact offered these to all of my friends and work mates for what they cost me. Feel free to make me an offer if you are a Bimmersporter who drives a BMW.

And if you were a true fan that did not want to miss out. You would have joined the Metallica Fan Club as discussed in the Metallica thread on this forum to get advanced sales.

If you search back you will see many items have been listed here. From TV's to Boats. But if you start listing all your crap don't come crying when it gets deleted or people start trolling your threads. e.g. Some of Shadys threads.

Don't ya hate it when you buy tickets for someoen then they pull out!

We were not able to get tickets for metallica as even though we qualifed for presales, online purchase process failed several times. Anyway we did the next best thing and bought the Blu-ray disk of the current concert in Mexico. Rocks!

  15. Man I've got the nasty cough from hell. Can't laugh, can't exert myself, as once i start coughing it just goes on for ages. When I final can stop I'm sweating like a just run 5km and shaking with sore chest, and sometimes dizzy like I'm about th pass out, thats if i'm not dry reaching over the bathroom sink. Serriously not good.

I got antibiotics on Monday but so far it's still getting worse. Comes with periodid fever and waking up at night soaked with sweat. Shouldn't be the flu as I had the jab this year.

I know 5 people other people who have had it or have it. Anyone else affected?

My tip stay well away from anyone coughing - i caught it from a firend who came skiing with us.

  16. Yeah, it has been appalling, poor snow fall combined with crap weather. I was also there last Tuesday, super nice day.

I never book accommodation far out for 2 reasons.

    1) I can't afford to, so sleep in the car when staying for 1+ day.

    2) The weather could be doing anything, as you said.

Still though, season's going 'til 7th November, the next month might compensate for the slow start.. I'm hoping to get in 15 days total by the end of the season.

Take a holiday down south (next season) you're almost guaranteed to get really nice days the majority of the time. And no queues.

Seriously considering a week down South next winter; the snow is better 99% of the time and there are a lot more ski days. We are failrly committed to Ruapehu though as we have lifetime passes for Ruapehu so the cost isn't so bad (if you forget how much 4 lifetime passes cost!).

Last year we came up for a lot of weekends and hired houses in Turangi using bookabatch - there is some bargins there and unlike Ohakune most don't insist on the 2 nites minimum on the weekend.

Will do a midweek day trip if it looks perfect with my Son and ski the High Noon Express. Some really nice black runs out to the right as you ride up the lift.

  17. After returning from our rained out ski holiday I put some time into sorting out the BMW wiring I need to tap into. Despite being somewhat under the weather from a nasty cough and fever I was able to learn all I needed to know from that WDS BMW wiring site.

Turns out I have the HiFi stereo with 10 speakers and 10 individual outputs for the speakers from the amplifier. The Left Right Front and Rear outputs from the raido can be picked up from the 12 pin plug for input to the new amps. It also has a ACC equivalent wire which is white (not the white / violet I'd been looking for and still havn't located).

I will remove the standard HiFi amplifier and remove the standard BMW plugs to the amp. I can mount the rather large cross-overs for my door speakers under the rear tray, or where the HiFi amp was located, and use the individual wiring to the tweeters and woofers.

I won't be doing any wiring until I'm a lot better though.

  18. Just got back on Thursday from Mt Ruapehu. Went up on the 24th and got our 1st days skiing the following Tuesday (which was perfect). The next day was wet so by 10.30 we were all soaked and by thursday (based on the forecasts) came back to Wellington. Of course Friday was OK LOL.

This seems to have been the worst North Island ski season I can recall. Last year we skiied 23 days, this year about 7!

  19. Yep thats the issue. When I rolled back the rubber conduit I found a the wires had been cut and rejoined at some stage which makes getting anything through their even harder. Possibly my boot lid has been replaced at some point, I can't think of any other reason for these to have been cut.

I suspect the wire for the left plate light didn't like being man handled and now I'm getting no voltage across the plug. The really bad news is that it runs all the way to the light control module in the front of the car near the diveres door. I really really do not want to have to re-run this wire.

I havn't monted the camera with silicon yet as I may want to be able to use the hole if I have to run a new wire.

Mucking about with your BMW is hours of fun.

In the end I was unable to find the required white/violet wire for the ACC on but after much checking on the online BMW wiring site I have found a wire that will work, it's all white and used to power on the amplifier from the radio. If anyone who has fitted this to an E38 knows differently let me know.

Issue with plate light was a broken join in the rubber gromlet between the boot lid and the boot. Fixed and all the boot lid trim back on and now the boot open / clouse switch isn't working. Probably another broken wire.

    Owned.....Rural Eketahuna FTL

Thats pretty terrible download speed - whats the line sync speed?

Unfortunately the economics of getting decent rural broadband using either copper or fibre is problamatic. Cabinets are expensive, as is trenching new fibre. The government has a rural broadband initiative but I don't know how that is going to work. I'd predict a mix of solutions including wireless eventually.

Current DSL technologies are only good for about 5km, and DSL2 isn't as good at distance as DSL1. Comcom regulating that the modems had to run full power and not allowing Telecom to reduce the power level of modems close to the exchange has adversly affected those at the ends of long copper lines, while providing at best a marginal improvement in speed to those close by. Great intentions but infortuantely you can't regulate the laws of physics.
