Haha yeah, I checked it out yesterday.

On top of what you mentioned, some other things that I found that made me hesitate for that price:

    1. Check engine was on

    2. Rust on one of the jack points

    3. Oil stains seeping through the engine cover (which I think is the valve cover gasket)

Was gonna come back today with an OBD scanner haha, but got told it had sold.

    So my hunt continues haha

Thats most peculiar, it received no bids on the Sunday and passed in at $19k, the opening bid from the auctioneer.

The BMW 2002 sold for a strongish  $41.5 the 1071 Mini Cooper at $20k, The E Type pulled  $160, Alpina roadster $21k and the Rover $50 plus the Ferrari 456 made $90k all before the buyers premium of 15%, so 6 cars on the day.

Surprisingly all the motorbike were marked as sold, some for strong money too

  2. NC500 is a fast road around the north of scotland. Well publicised in various magazines, Evo Octane and suchlike. Much loved by various owners clubs too, I'd suggest the seller is suggesting some link to the area, given the McAlpine heritage. What happened to the original shell, hmm no guessing here two choices here, rusted out beyond repair or simply fell to bits 😀

Update: I'm wrong above, Oliver Nowack  is a German M5 specialist tuner see link below, ref the Nowack N500 (503bhp)

  3. 8 A1 block mounts 58.5cm wide, 83cm height on 15mm board. Professionally done. Prefer pickup from Parklands 8083. $95 each. These are heavy (5.7kg), so courier will not be cheap, however can wrap, pack at send at buyers cost and risk. Sadly some are Porsche flavoured.............

Organisational failure saw Environment Canterbury fail to reprimand the chairperson after he clocked almost 700 speeding incidents.

That's what the council are saying after chairperson Peter Scott, who has now stepped down, exceeded the speed limit in a council-provided car 678 times since January, with a top speed of 157km/h.

    https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/10/11/how-678-speeding-violations-by-the-boss-went-unnoticed-at-ecan/

No big deal here. Any vehicle fitted with GPS would show speeding in excess of posted limits daily.

The media have feasted (falsely) on this for weeks. And Peter Scott fell on his sword anyway, sooo folks this show is over

Years ago I owned the NZ new (tourist delivery and RHD converted) Misano red E30 M3 evo 2. Definitely one of those 'should never have sold it' cars but, I reckon the 1M is its real successor.

Writing as an aged M addict would have to disagree with your statement here Peter. The E30 is a purpose build naturally aspirated M car, whereas the 1M is a "parts bin" special  😉

OK, the e30 M3 is back home, Mileage is 99,668 miles.

If I decide to keep I would install an electric fan, but keep the original.

Thought is to do another NZ top-to-bottom road trip, which would take it over that ton miles.

    Yeah, heart-to-head decision.

Yeah $99,000 to a new keeper to drive away,.

Good luck with a sale at that price. The global market is saturated with special interest cars for sale, a quick look at Bring a Trailer, and Collecting Cars auction sees a mounting list of brands going RNM. The cars for sale to willing buyers ratio is well adrift, and a good time to buy if something takes your fancy. And most seem to have been acquired when the market was strong, on the back of the Covid surge.

"Buy a classic car it's an investment........."  the listings read, Yes, right 😮

This writer believes the market is far from reaching the bottom of the bell curve, so hold on for a stormy ride.

I wonder if BMW New Zealand would see an opportunity here to pick up the hosting cost (sponsorship) and provide an easy mechanism plus sharp pricing on parts for members ? When asked I got some not shocking prices out of them and was easy enough to deal with. I think they are missing an opportunity in the parts space.

Plenty of nerds here that could do the admin / infra management.

    🤔

From my (limited) experience with corporate structures Bimmersport is probably more aligned with the ethos of BM Workshop and Parts.

Now with a well run workshop and parts supply in Christchurch as well as the Auckland locations, an approach to the owner based in Auckland  may be worth exploring.
