  1. Sometimes heating the plastics with a heatgun will bring some colour back to the surface although you'd need to be careful not to scorch the plastic, there's a fine line between hot enough and too hot. The prestige detailing guy probably used wax and greas remover with a toothbrush or something similar to get the residue out and then a quality plastics treatment to penetrate and disguise any that remained. Most products will hide existing whiteness for a time. Meguiars does a couple of new trim protectants that are longer lasting and they get great results on older trim especially. Ultimate trim detailer would be my recommendation. The other option that we sometimes use is Boiled Linseed oil, it will penetrate well, add colour and so long as it's allowed to dry properly it will last and last and last. Just don't get it on your paint because it's quite difficult to remove.
  2. Hey guys, just a quick update on this for Saturday . The weather forecast is looking good at this stage so that's awesome, and we have several companies joining us on the day. At this stage we have confirmed - Meguiar's, The Dent Magician, Wheelfixit, Trim Fix, Clear Light (Headlight restorations) & Pure Vision Graphics (Vehicle Wrapping and Tinted headlight protective films). There's a possibility of having Auto Safe and Sound there on the day and maybe Fusion.... I have to talk to them again. Equip Espresso will keep us topped up with caffeine and a sausage sizzle will provide some sustenance as children bounce happily on the F1 bouncy castle. If anyone is up for the challenge a hyper simulator Will be there to record your lap times. Prizes for cars on show will include Meguiars Products, Grit Guard wash systems, Final Touch polishing and Stonechip repairs, Headlight Protective film application & the team from RPMS cards have kindly donated some card memberships as well. We're looking forward to it and hope to see you there, we're at 5 Douglas Alexander Parade in Albany in the business park from 10:00am
  3. Darryl the Dent Magician does Guard rolling if you are cautious about doing it yourself at all. I don't know what he charges but I doubt it's expensive. His # is 0274838935 if you're keen to call him. I need to get him to do mine sometime...
  4. Not so sure about 'wealth of knowledge' but I'm keen to share what knowledge I have if it helps people in their quest for getting/keeping their cars looking awesome That E30 looks like you've done most of the hard work already, it's pretty tempting but I'm still a bit of a way off from making the step up to joining a race series. Hopefully when my boys are a bit bigger. I'm sure you won't have much trouble selling it
  5. The Guys from Wheelfixit are confirmed to come along on the day for anyone who wants to talk about wheel repairs, In my experience Nick and his team do a great job and provide a wide range of services. The Team from Meguiars NZ are keen to be onsite on the day as well to give their expert advice on car care products and I'm sure we'll have some great special prices available on the day if people want to stock up for the summer season.
  6. NXT Tech wax is a great wax, it was their premium wax untill recently. It's really a finishing wax without any surface cleaning properties. It gives a great finish on good paint.
  7. Looks awesome, you've obviously put a lot of thought into getting it looking right
  8. Hey Scott There's a fairly wide rainge of answers to that question but I'll give it a go - Let me know if I don't get it right. You say it's cleaned and polished several times a year I'm assuming that you do it by hand and you're not actually needing to do any significant correction. I tend to recommend Meguiars because I use them a lot and they're great quality products that does what it says it will and they have a few products that represent great value. Meguiars Cleaner wax is one of their oldest waxes and it's great for good looking durable protection. It won't give you a lot of correction but it will give you a great lasting shine. I use it a lot on vehicles (like my wifes Territory) that don't get a lot of pampering but that you want to hold condition. If you're after a Wax that you can Layer up a bit the Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnauba wax is a gerat value product. Very similar to the Gold Class Wax but less cost. You do sacrifice a bit of shine If you need to achieve any correction then Meguiars Ultimate Compound is a great product. It has a lot of the attributes of the Professional formulas in an easy to use version. It will get great results with little risk. All those products are easy to use by hand but can also be used with an orbital polisher such as the Mothers Wax Attack for even better results. They're definitely not the expensive versions but products are so good now that you'll get great looking protection without the need of boutique products. Having said that though, Meguiars Ultimate Wax (which is still difficult to get hold of here) is flippin' awesome but I think it's about $80 or something but you really want to be using it on mint paintwork or it's a bit pointless. Hope that's helpful?
  9. Hey Guys, Gordon from Final Touch here, some of you know me or our company Final Touch as we’ve been privileged to work on a few of your fine motor vehicles from time to time and the forum/s tend to come up in conversation quite a bit - It's always nice to meet enthusiasts who are passionate about their vehicles an some of you guys have got some pretty wicked cars. I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate area for this post but seeing as Final Touch is about shiny cars I figured it was a good starting place... I’m always a bit cautious about posting in Car forums for fear of coming across as a bit of a spammer (I definitely don't want to be the looser that spams for business ) but I thought I’d better take a chance and jump on to invite anyone who might be interested along to our open day/show and shine on the 29th of October. We’re having it at our workshop in Albany from 10am- 3pm and everyone is welcome. We’ll have a sausage sizzle going on, a bouncy castle and things for the kids and we’re keen to have as many cool looking cars on show as possible on the day. We’ll have a few prizes up for grabs if anyone is keen to put their car on show. Obviously we’ll be here and keen to talk to people about paint care and car detailing etc... on the day as well, I know that enthusiasts are often keen to have a chat about stuff without feeling like we’re trying to sell them $1000 details so we’ll be happy to chat with anyone about their cars. We'll be asking a couple of other car related companies along as well so there should be something for everyone to have a look at. We’ll be inviting a few clubs etc... that we’ve done some work with and there seems to be a fairly positive ammount of interest so if people are keen at all to come along as a group please let us know in advance and we’ll work on setting aside a bit of an area for you. We might need to have a club showdown if there’s enough interest. Lets hope for some fine weather on the day
  10. He Team Gordon From Final Touch here, thought I should log in instead of lurking quietly across all manner of car forums. Have to admit I'm not a BMW owner but I'm definitely a fan of the brand and I'm darned tempted to get one of the E30 race cars and have a go. A few guys I know who race them absolutley love it. I look forward to getting to know a few of you... Cheers
  11. Grant's shop is one of the best on the shore, he's well priced and does great work without all the pretentious BS that many of the shops that do a lot of Euro work seem to have attached to them. We refer lots of people to him and use him on our own vehicles
  12. Hey Garry I thought I'd jump in and offer some help here. For best results you definitely want to strip away that wax coating before you polish, will take longer with less noticable improvement otherwise. Any wax and grease remover will be suitable, e.g. Septone Silicone Release from Repco or Supercheap and the key is to wipe it on and then off again before it dries otherwise you've effectively moved the wax around. The Meguiars stage 2 polish is a great product if you already have it but if you're yet to purchase I'd recommend their new Ultimate Polish. It might be a little difficult to get hold of yet but it is basically the consumer version of Meguiars 205 which is generally accepted as one of the best finishing polishes ever made. If you can get your hands on an orbital polisher (even somethinglike the Mothers Wax attack) you'll find your results a lot more satisfying and the proces will need a lot less elbow grease. I hope thats helpful.
