Hahaha no worries!! I love your enthusiasm and true love towards the E39 :-) And justifiably so, its a damn amazing car!
-
This is the main factor behind my E60 purchase. Money a side, even in only owning the E39 for 6 months. I f**king love it. And a big part of me wants someone else to be able to enjoy it as much as I do before it ends up being run into the ground like you say.
-
I'm not really a fuel economist kind of person to be honest. I've had many crappy daily drivers in the past (nissans, toyotas). I've also had a track car in the past (400 horsepower nissan drift car). Since owning my first E39 m-sport, I decided that driving a nice car day to day really is my thing. I just thoroughly enjoy hopping into my 'nice' car at the start and end of each day, it makes the drive to and from work that little bit more exciting, more lively. I arrive at my clients in a generally much happier mood. I also think I guess I love the ego boost side of things, I enjoy meeting people who like my car, or one day want to own one themselves. You're right, taking the E39 on the race track would be good fun. But having done a bit of track drifting in the past in a faster, track-built drift race car, it's not a new thing to me, and to be honest, my old nissan would be more suited to the racetrack (1100kg vs 1800kg same power). In the end of my 'drift career' trackdays ended up being very stressful and competitive, and instead of enjoying it and having fun, i was always putting myself under pressure to do better, be faster. Then comes the cost/feeling when something breaks. BMW have always said the 5 series is supposed to be the perfect car for 1) relaxing driving day to day, with up to 4 people and luggage, then, when you want it to be, the performance of a super car. I am simply hoping the E60 is as good at this as my E39 is. I love the E39, almost love it even more in the last 24 hours after buying the E60. I understand now why people say it's the last "real" M5. For me though, the extra power, the strange but quite interesting gearbox, the electronic wizardry (I am an IT consultant by trade), and absolute brutal speed especially on the motorway, really turns the E60 into a new type of M5, a new type of super sedan. Time will tell. If only I could keep both M5s.... DREAMS

Ah yes I see, so both are 70L... What confused me was that my E39 took 72 litres once, so I just assumed it was 80L (not sure how this happened). In that case, E60 is definitely more thirsty, about 20% more thirsty to be precise. Filled the E60 just before, range reckons 420km to full tank, compared to my usual 500km. (70% motorway, 30% city)
-
Yeah that's the same for me, good to know! I'll let you know how the usage is in the E60 if you are curious to compare like I am. It seems weird to only have a 60L tank in the E60, barely will get me anywhere before I have to fill up again.
-
Thanks, it sounds like I will need a bit of luck on my side. You're surely right, I've heard nothing but bad things about the fuel usage of the V10. And it was 450km - 500km per tank I was getting in the E39. Up to 600km on a road trip with chilled out driving. But the tank is 80L. I've only driven the E60 like 50km so far, so cannot make a call, am only going based on the expected Range, being a full tank 350km (we will see what this is in reality though). But 60L tank size. Should be pretty similar believe it or not. How many km's do you get to a full tank in your E39?

It's a late 2005 model, first registered in NZ in 2006. NZ New 51,000km on the clock Full service history, updated 2012 nav maps, replaced i-drive, brand new clutch/flywheel/bearings Black leather interior with titanium trim Silverstone Metallic II exterior colour Options include: Optics Package (this seems pointless, like little orange lights around the car like in an aeroplane) Cargo Package (various netting and compartments around the place) Rear electric blinds Privacy Glass (tints) HomeLink garage/gate system iPod intergration More which I can't remember at the moment. Better photos to come.

Nah nah you guys got it all wrong, it was never the thirst, it wasn't even the cost/expense. It was the fact that in 18 months, my E39 would be up around 170,000km, and based on my findings, this would then prove fairly difficult to sell (it's even difficult to sell now with only 130,000...). Plus I always prefer to sell my cars before they reach the high km's. I don't really want to be the last owner, I don't want to run it into the ground. Yes, I am doing a lot more mileage. So I needed a car with low km's on the clock. This E60 has only done 50,000km, so in 18 months, I can sell it at around 90,000km hopefully quite easily. I also obtained a cheeky pay rise late last year, so have been itching to try the E60. Plus now that I've had a taste for V10 and 507bhp I'm kinda addicted Also, ironically - it seems the E60 actually gets better gas mileage than my E39.. 350km to 60L tank compared with 450km to 80L tank. Do we have any scheduled bimmersport dyno days coming up again?

Picked this up this evening... More photos and review to come soon...

It's a combination of things really. For the first time in 8 years I am finally down to one car, and loving it, the hassles and time of owning a crappy daily (plus WOFs, Reg, Insurnace) are in the past for me, and I love nothing more than having one reliable and drivable car to use day-to-day. Not to mention the driveway space is running low and its like a game of Tetris some mornings, with two cars this would suck even more. I'm super glad to have owned this car, even if it has only been for 6 months. New client in Waiuku isn't the steel mill thankfully!! A cheeky pay rise at work a couple months ago has helped too, so will be upgrading to a newer and lower km car, probably this week if all goes well. Because of this, will be willing to take $29,000 this week (for bimmersport members). Since buying the car I have had a new set of tyres go on the car, as well as a service at Team Mcmillian which is happening this week prior to sale. Basically am looking to break even, still an incredible price for such an epic machine.

Bump - am I over pricing this? I was/am certain it was worth 30k +... ? Specialist market I guess. BUY ME
-
Bump, still 30k for bimmersport members, even though its 34k ono on trademe. I would love someone here to buy it so I can still see the car at meets etc :-)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=701430753 On trademe, would take less than the trademe price if a bimmersport member bought it though :-)

FS: Custom German/Europlates ORDERS NOW CLOSED - Last Order Before Chr

Just a word of warning to everyone. Was driving along the motorway, headed towards the harbour bridge last week, not speeding or doing anything illegal. A police car appears behind me and begins to pull me over, so I travel through the tunnel and pull over on the side of the motorway before the bridge. Very confused, because I had really done nothing wrong, and was late for a business meeting on the shore. Cop comes up to my drivers window, and says the reason he's pulled me over is because he suspects my number plates are not legit, and that he is by law going to take them off me and destroy them, right now. I question his thoughts and ask why he thinks that, and is that really a valid reason to pull me over in such an unsafe location, causing rubber necking and traffic. I also question how I am supposed to drive to my meeting, and then home, with no number plates, for which he has no answer. He then asks me to hop out of my car, wearing my full business apparel (nice shirt, trousers etc), and remove the plates from my car. I again asked how/why he is even taking them off me as I had no idea what was going on at this stage. I say if you are taking them off me, you can remove them. He then makes a nasty comment about if he was to remove them he would probably damage the car. So I end up getting my screw driver out and lying on the side of the motorway as trucks drive past etc and remove my front and rear German euro plates, and in the process get covered in sh*t/dust/rubber etc from the side of the motorway, not to mention the danger involved. Once the plates were finally removed, he shows me a sticker on the back of one of my plates, showing that it was imported from Germany, and uses that as his point showing that its illegal. I still didn't understand really what he was trying to say, and he had NO documentation or anything to back it up. I informed the officer that I had passed a WOF 2 weeks ago and that surely a WOF check from a qualified car mechanic is valid for number plates, since when are police also now qualified WOF people? He then proceeds to tell me that the fine for having incorrect plates is $200 and 30 demerits, and that I will expect a ticket in the mail. Long story short - Police are jealous wankers (sorry if anyone here is an officer), and it literally feels like I've been robbed. So just a word of warning, be careful out there with these kinds of plates. My 2c. -
See what you can come up with Jules! I would prefer someone from here buys it obviously as would love to keep it in the club. Sorry not too keen on a trade, even though I really like your car, I've become accustomed to big horsepower N/A V8. Watch this space for my next car Cheers guys :-)
-
I'll get something else cool next, just needs to have much lower kms so I can drive around lots without worrying about the mileage going up :-) Indeed bugger though, absolutely love the car.
-
Yeah sorry Jules. I hadn't planned to sell, but just realized today I've already done 11,000km in the 4 months I've owned it, which is scary haha. It's been a really amazing, fun 11,000km though!

Hi guys Up for sale is my fairly recently acquired E39 M5. Some of you might remember me looking for a car like this for months last year and, after searching and searching for the right one, I finally found this one up for sale in October last year. Nothing has changed since I have bought the car, I had the car checked over by a specialist before buying the car and was more than happy with his report of the car (4-5 months ago). I have replaced all four tyres with brand new FALKEN FK452 which still have PLENTY of tread. Some details: Year: 2000 Car: BMW M5 Kilometers: 131,000km Colour: Anthracite Metallic (have been told this is the only E39 M5 in NZ in this colour) Interior: Black leather / Silverstone leather seats. Shadow Titanium finish trim. Black dash (compared with new models having grey). Rego: V8M Options: Glass sunroof, rear electric curtain, heated front seats, 10 x speaker system, probably more which I forget. Other cool things: Because the car was built late in the year 2000, it has some 'facelift' components added from new, such as facelift headlights (xenon) with 'angel-eyes' and facelift tail-lights. Also quite interesting: I took the car to the bimmersport dyno day late last year shortly after buying it. The car performed amazingly well, making a very solid 235kw at the wheels, with an amazingly smooth linear power delivery. This was more kilowatts than the two other M5's which attended the same day. Because of this, and the overall condition, the car won 'Best V8' - something I am fairly proud of :-)! Service/Car history: The person I bought the car off lived in Singapore originally, and that is where he bought the car (back at 50,000km). He drove it over there, then because he loved it so much, imported it back to New Zealand when he moved back here. The car has a full service history over its lifetime, with all NZ servicing having been done by Jerry Clayton BMW. This includes all regular servicing and any required repairs. As well as this a recent Diff and Gearbox oil replacement was done, so the peace of mind is there knowing you can just hop in and drive this thing - with just regular oil services. Why on earth am I selling it you ask? - Well, as much as I really don't want to sell the car, I recently obtained a new client at work, who are based out in Waiuku. This means I am currently doing close to 35,000km of driving a year, which means unfortunately, the M5 has to go. I would hate to continue driving it this much and doing such large mileage on such a rare 'super sedan'. Anything wrong with the car? - The overall condition of the car, especially for a 14 year old vehicle, is in my opinion quite amazing. If i was to be super picky and pedantic (which I am), the only issues with the car are as follows: - It appears someone threw an egg at the back of the car at some stage, as there is a small circle of minorly damaged paint. Bastards. - Drivers seat has a very minor bit of damage along the stitching line, could easily be repaired by new owner, you probably won't even notice it unless I point it out - A few pixels here and there are sometimes missing from the head-unit. Again this is repairable quite easily (around $150) for the new owner if they wish. - A bit of the foam is showing by the back window from where the fabric just needs re-glueing, this is because the car has a rear electric curtain. - One of the floor matts is a bit worn out, car will also come with original floor mats anyway so not a major. - Even though it seems ALL M5's do it, when you first start the car it makes a bit of a noise from the engine (this is normal - but thought I'd list this anyway). - A bit of fading on the gearknob - general wear and tear. Overnight the car has been in my garage, no oil or fluid leaks that I know of, nothing has ever leaked onto the garage floor or such. The M5 notoriously uses oil, although my one seems to use very little, but I have topped it up a couple times over the last 10,000km. Anyway, I could rant on forever, but if you are truly interested it is best you come and arrange viewing the car. I am based out in Takanini, Auckland. Asking price: $30,000

Hi Guys Want my E39 M5 to sound gruntier/louder and a bit more like Ray's E46 M5 thing. Only want the best quality, I definitely don't want to lose any power from it. Preferably german/UK made, and preferably already in NZ due to shipping costs. Thanks Dave 021 778 376

:-)! One road trip in my M5 and instantly your search begins Good luck Roo!

Updated first post with some photos from the other day. Future plans include: Move my iPod DICE unit across, connect my sub+amp, hard-wire for the radar Maybe some 35% black tints (for sunlight, security and to help keep the leather in good condition) but am weighing up vs the current look (a bluey/chromey tinge due to double glazing). Talk to Ray at HELLBM and find out what he did to his 8M3 car to make it sound that little bit louder/gruntier - hopefully this doesn't have a negative affect on the performance. Then just mostly maintenance, and trying to keep it in good condition. Leaving a copy of this dyno sheet here too for future reference:

I am very stoked I had a very enjoyable day. Would love my M5 to sound a bit more like Ray's M3 V8 one, which I assume is just intake/exhaust More than happy with the power it made!
