i thought you had to remove material from e39 rims to fit e34, thats just what one of the guys from the dealer told me when i was looking at some wheels they had for sale anyways.. those alpinas will look savage!

sometimes people say M for manual (same way as most auto bmw are 535ia) others say the NZ "sports" are M as they were badged with the //M badge from the dealer(no 535 badge).Its confusing because the E28(i think) did have an M535 and it did have a more powerful engine.I think the nz "sports" have a 3.64 diff instead of the 3.46 of the std 535.

haha yeah is damn confusing,bmw make too many variations of one model. i'ts like a lucky dip when buying one secondhand, an e28 m535 would be quite cool

sounds like a bit of a project, I think id stick with the less cost effective way, which is what i'm trying to do. but I think what I would do personally, stick with the 535.

all e 34 535s have the same engine...no such thing as M535 in the e 34.Most NZ 535s would have been very well specced from new being (at the time) top of the line apart frpom the M5.

both mine are uk imports. ive seen people advertising m535's for sale.. brent had his advertised as one and i've seen 3 others advertised that way,most had body kits and mtech supsension,lsd etc.

that m535se i drove had a lighter flywheel and different ratio diff to mine so thats why it felt quick,wasn't meaning they had different engines.

you get the black one off trademe? if so one of the test drivers said it has an lsd..

i have to decide what to do with my two e34's, my 535 has 250 thou k, very low agressive stance and mechanically great,tightest e34 i have driven..could just be that its quite low though making it feel stable on the road.love the colour but very average body and interior condition.

530..hmmm soon to be 535, body and interior are both imaculate but not very impressed by colour, mecahnically pretty average, felt very baggy and loose when i drove it, colud swap bits over from 535 eg, suspension,brakes and wheels but that is alot of work..

Just bought an SE myself, Manual E34 535i SE 1989. From what everyone else has said about SE's in this thread, this has cloth seats, spolier, Manual box, and an M series steering wheel. once delivered first thing I will be checking is to see if it does have an LSD (praying it does ). Other than all that, its not much different at all to my standard 89 E34 535i, will let ya know tho!

my 88 535 manual has m sport steering wheel and gear nob as standard,cloth interior,nothing special,kinda cool pearl blue/purple paint though,changes in sunlight

89 530 SE has apline white paint-quite boring,cloth interior,msport steering wheel,cruise control,lsd

has an msport badge before the 530..does this make it a m530? or ist it more likely someone just put an m badge on?

i test drove an m535 SE once, had lsd,leather,spoiler and bodykit,mtech suspension, supposedly close ratio box aswell-could be a lie though but it did go like stink

Was it a V8 or a straight 6?

straight six.. jacked the car up and it does have an lsd

couldn't turn over at all to check cam lobe on number 1 so had to put it in gear and push backwards, camshaft worn pretty much as badly as in brents pics so i assume its the same as his.. beautiful.. that was an expensive 3 minutes of bmw fun. it does have an LSD though haha, it's almost worth the trauma now

yep removed valve cover.. tried turning over by hand but shes pretty well jammed up,starter motor won't crank it over,may try turning backwards with large wrench and check those lobes..took dipstick out and oil has a milky colour to it, smells a bit like petrol too

was going around a corner, 2nd gear, put foot down coming out of corner, it got up to around 4k rpm then abs light came on, no engine response, the rest of the lights came on,pulled over, tried turning it over,loud banging noises,looked behind car and alot of white/blueish smoke from exhaust, won't fire, now won't turn over at all.

it had quite a noisy top end when i test drove it but though it would hold together for a while. also had extremely noisy flywheel chatter when starting and shutting down engine..well thats what i've been told that nosie is anyway.

one thing i noticed is that when i test drove it was that when i gave it the loud pedal that the abs light came on but only once

my 535 does this sometimes but very sparadically,eg just cruising along and the abs light will show for a second or two and engine will shut down.. then it just gets up and going again

yeah it's pretty unbelievable. he's off to australia for a while but said to keep in contact and let him know if it's stuffed and he'll help me out..well hopefully

hey guys i just got a 530i and the engine commited suicide just after i payed for it.. the seller has agreed to help me out money wise so i need to figure out whats wrong with it and let him know. i initially though cam chain or cam shaft so removed cam cover but cannot see anything out of the ordinary. is there anyone in chch who could drop by my place and have a look, there will be cold beverages supplied of course. just need to know if it's fixable or if it's an engine transplant.

any help would be greatly appreciated

So i owned my 530i se for 3 minutes and the engine went pop...not too sure what's wrong but i'm pretty sure its terminal.lots of smoke,loud knocking when turning over,now jammed up...hmm

looking at it, it seems the same as my 3.5 so maybe it's just bore and stroke that give it smaller displacement, so hopefully a 3.5 m30 will fit. anyone have anything? i'm in chch

oh ok, just seemed that most e34's on trademe that are se models have a lsd etc..

well i just payd for the car, droped the seller around the corner to his mates then picked up my flatmate to go to the supermarket, got 100m down the road and the engine selfdestructed..it actually just killed itself in a cloud of smoke and loud cluttering noises oresome.. i think i owned it for 3 minutes before it exploded, has to be some kind of record

latest mod is a sweet set of italian airhorns... love it.

Here it is, as you can see paint/panels need a bit of work but the wheels came up really good, as did the cam cover.

Now wanting to sell $4K
