  1. Because E38s never had angel eyes, it's something that's fairly rare to see. As a result I think it looks cool and unique, but comes at the expense somewhat of breaking from the original design and associating the 7 with the rest of the BMW range... almost degrading its look as the sophisticated vehicle of the range (as it is not all that common to find tastefully modded angel eyes). However, I can recommend the following: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/177010/3 The angel eyes mod done here really enhances the cars front end and is something I have considered replicating myself, but never have the time nor the money. For further DIY advice, there are several pages listed at http://www.e38.org/ Apparently the best kits come from Umnitza, however I have also seen a video somewhere of a guy who simply melted plastic rods in his oven, bent them around some jar lids and cut little indents into the back of them. After drilling leds into the top of each ring he managed to produce a nice looking angel eye kit (and it would have been a lot cheaper than Umnitza stuff). Also, if you actually do it - post pics.
  2. Thanks for your help guys, after opening it up it turned out to be a busted valve, but I'm not sure yet if that was the cause of the vibrating. Hoping it is though otherwise there are other things happening here too. Also, going to replace some of the seals in the rocker cover while were in there. I think its going to be ok, but it scared the crap out of me!
  3. Ok, so thismorning i notice a small shudder when the car is idling, everything else seems normal, temperature, water level and oil pressure is fine. Anyway, later in the day when I go to drive home, upon starting up my car I get a lot of blue smoke from the exhausts. This persists for 20 seconds before I give up and check everything. Everything is fine and I can't hear any strange noises from the engine, I even took off the air filter so I could listen better. Nothing out of the ordinary there, only the shudder kind of like a diesel... What's wrong with the car??? P.S. God I'm scared. Love that car so much...
  4. Thought you guys should check this out. I'll remember not to do this with my car http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b33_1184789045
  5. Thanks guys I'll try a trial run first with the traction control turned off and actually time it properly. It probably needs a new air filter and oil anyway so I'll give it that too but that might take me a few weeks to actually do... If that fails I'll give Gavin Bellars a call.
  6. Yea thanks guys. I think that its lacking in power because it doesn't have the 0-100 time it should, its in excess of 10 seconds and I thought that it should be around 8. Maybe im just expecting too much of an old car...
  7. Hey guys I was thinking that I might get my old e38 retuned for better performance, do you think this would be productive and who should I see about doing it? It's a 740i but it has nowhere near the power that it should, I'm hoping a retune will most fix this, would you guys agree?
  8. Ok, so I was on trademe and started thinking that it would be cheaper to just put a sub in the boot with a dedicated amp... I really just want bass because the system doesn't have ANY at the moment and it really pisses me off because I'm quite into audio, just never knew anything about car audio equipment (so thanks a lot guys). I would probably get better performance with a sub in the boot (I think...) but do you think it would sound good, especially in the back seats (they still have the door speakers)
  9. Yea I have looked into buying a subwoofer kit from bavauto before, but I'm too poor at the moment. Do you guys know if the speaker has to seal to the speaker housing to sound nice? I noticed that the stock ones are pretty much sealed in place (looked at one at a wreckers but the speakers were all blown...) because if not I might be able to get some home speakers to do it, I really don't like the speakers that are in there, they sound like sh*t even when working properly.
  10. hmmmm my father's got an e66... one day he might wake up to find it on bricks. In the garage...

    Internet Speeds

560kbps down, 120 up grrrr I'm getting annoyed with our internet atm. Just had the telecom/downer guys in for a couple of days to fix up the line and now its up to 7616kbps downstream from the terminal thingy (shown on the router's test), but our actual internet speed is like 560kbps because slingshot is so shitty. Think we'll have to change ISP can anyone recommend one?
  12. I need speakers to replace the rear speakers in an e38, only thing is they have to be 8Ω to match the amp... otherwise the amp will just blow the crap out of them. But where do I find such speakers??? I've got some old 4Ω speakers the previous owner had put in (lol noob) and have wired them up in series, but this is not ideal as now I am only using 2 of the four feeds from the amp, and to top things off the speakers are slightly too large... so what size should i be getting for an old (1995) e38? Cheers guys
  13. hey thats a great idea, does anybody know what the story is about fitting e65 or e66 rims to an e38?
  14. Oh yeah, by the way you may notice I signed up ages ago and pretty much just lurked since then. Signed up even before I had bought my bimmer, anyway I've finally decided to come out of hiding now.
  15. Hey guys I'm wondering where i can find a set of Alpina wheels, the standard 20 spoke design ones that would fit my e38 7-series, 18"-20" in size. Where in NZ do you think I could find some, either new or second hand? I have been looking on trademe but its pretty slow to find things like this so I wondered if you could help me out... Cheers p.s. any suggestions of what else I might put on/where I could find it? (My heart's not completely set on alpina) Also, I'm a poor student with V8 fuel economy to pay for...
  16. Hi, new guy here with an e38. Bought this car a couple of months ago and absolutely love it! When i got it it was only running on four cylinders due to dead spark plugs but after a bit of work, its a V8 again (now its runs smooth and its got its old power back, but gets worse fuel economy! those dead cylinders were saving fuel before...) Anyway I'm looking forward to doing the car up a bit, starting with some new alpina mags but i'll post about that in the wheels/tyres forum, oh and some of those german plates... (should i get the NZ style ones or german style??? will the police be less likely to notice the NZ style plates from www.germanplates.com ?) Photos included were taken in National park, I'm in Manukau though.
  17. These are Kelleners Double K's. They are a set of K's (standing for Kellener) and I think that they still make them. They're different but at least people will notice them! http://www.kelleners-sport.co.jp/wheels.html
