  1. Spotted you in Mission Bay last night, love the lip. I pulled in behind you when you parked, then you realised there was another park a little bit closer up so you moved haha

Haha hey mate - didn't realise you were a local bimmersporter!

Julian - I've had a google search but can't seem to find anything. Mind you, I have no idea what to search under apart from 'rolls royce conversion'. Will keep looking.

Edit 2: Looks like it has the front from a '78 Corniche, the rear looks like the Enterprise.

  2. This has appeared recently about a block from my house... Very nice. Was it on TM recently?

Hot! Yes, I recall seeing one in that colour on TM a couple of weeks ago - think it was the same plate too?

Spotted a hot E92 M3 in dark blue (not sure of the paint - wasn't Jerez Black) in Mission Bay last night.

Plus also saw that DIY monstrosity last weekend - the grey convertible, Rolls Royce front end, who knows what at the back. Can't tell what it initially was.

    Edit: removed copied pics.

  3. ...get taken for some sideways action by Mike in his e92 M3 "M-Taxi"

I've watched Mike drive around Hampton Downs in M Taxi, he seems to have considerable trouble driving normally... :D Very impressive to watch, I can only imagine what it'd be like to go for a lap with him!

  4. Saw this driving through mission bay yesterday...looked good! B)

Thanks! A friend is looking at buying one, so let him take it for a drive. I'm pretty sure he's convinced..!

Re: driveways, I'm quite lucky in our new house that there is no elevation to the garage. If it's too much of a hassle I can always take it off (or it may remove itself and save me the trouble). We'll see - it's lasted a couple of days so far.... :D

  5. very very nice, love the grey with the bits of black..

not being a hater but this popped into my mind when looking at your spoiler..

Haha, the front does project a fair bit. We'll see how it goes, as the car's a bit lower than standard also.

  6. Is a bit of a silly carpark.

Double side the top rim on then screw through the bottom, how we do it anyway.

    Thanks Greg,

I took your advice, taped the top of the rim and screws on side & bottom, and voila!

What do you think, Bimmersport? Like/dislike? Paint grey/keep black?

M3_Power, pm me your address and I'll send you the prize.

  7. bone stock gray/silver with bottle caps. No rips or fraying on the sports seats (incl. bolsters) with very very straight bumpers and body. Apparently owned by a dealer until 1989, then sold to his son recently that came with a hardtop roof, hence, unused//near new canvas.

Hmm, a different one methinks. Hello (if you're on here) to whoever has that white e30 cab - we shared a moment. It was special.

  8. This thread needs more photos.

First to spot the location wins the prize. Disclaimer: there may not be a prize.

Plinth fitted on the front - looks good, and I hope it will stop the front bumper getting as damaged from low-speed impacts. I park in malls/carparks/all over the place, so it can't be avoided.

Any suggestions where to get front lip fitted?

  9. mint e30 PFL 325i cab @ Mt Eden Countdown parked next to me. Was admiring when the owner came back, he dropped the word "hardtop" into the convo, nearly came

Wasn't a white one, quite low, nice 15's by chance...? If so, I saw him on the way to Mt Eden & gave him a thumbs up - logged in to post up that I spotted him too! Very, very nice car.

  10. Not really a lightness or heavy issue with the steering - heavy doesn't always = more direct steering feedback.

I guess a better word for it is probably lazy - the E46 M3's steering definitely felt a lot "lazier" compared to the E36 M3 and the feedback and feel through it becomes a little vague.

CSL has a faster rack in a lighter car, so in actual fact it is lighter again compared to the E46 M3, but mostly owing to the steering ratio, it has a much more positive feedback and lot less lazy feel to it.

Aha that makes sense now - thanks!

  11. I've driven the E36 M3 Evo and E46 M3 back to back (one right after the other), and to be honest I actually thought the E36 M3 had better steering feedback and felt lot more 'raw' when compared to the E46 M3.

Power delivery however the E46 M3 trumps the E36 M3 in my opinion. Smoother, more willing to rev and felt less strained for me.

I wouldn't be surprised on the steering feedback - I have often thought the steering on the e46 m3 feels a bit on the light side. I think the CSL has a different steering rack, may tighten things up a bit?

Had a trial fit of the new lip spoiler and it's rather low....! May be a concern for daily use, but only one way to find out. Will take it to someone who knows what they're doing, as I don't want to hack the bumper to bits trying to fit it - any suggestions?

  12. ^^^ So E36 felt far worse than E46, is that what you are saying?

Let me rephrase - E36 Z3M Coupe. Sorry for the confusion.

No, I'm not saying it felt worse (let alone far worse) - just different in terms of power delivery and handling. I'm sure they'd be on-par with each other performance-wise, but they go about delivering it quite differently (if that makes sense?).

I'd love to own one if I could justify & afford it..!

Edit: Same as this, the breadvan:

Edit 2: I'd definitely be keen on going for a ride in an e36 M3; I haven't before, and they've always been one of my dream cars - I just love the shape. Was looking at a mint blurple one in WGTN when it was up for sale a while back - I think it was owned as a personal car by the dealer.

  13. I do have a soft spot for e46 M3s, especially in silver! Very nice

    Me too :D

Hope to get it back today, will spend some time in the garage tonight and trial fit the new lip - thanks again Greg!

As an aside, I've developed a liking for the 118d I have in the meantime... not something I would've expected... but it's just so easy to drive/park/don't have to worry about it! Maybe wouldn't pick the 'modern', but beggers can't be choosers...

Edit; and aside #2 I had the pleasure of driving an e36 M-Coupe in the weekend. I've been looking forward to driving one for comparison purposes. It feels like a completely different car - everything from the power delivery to the handling characteristics feels worlds apart. The latter is understandable due to the different chassis & weight, but the former was a bit of a shock. It does kind of make sense, but would've thought they'd compare given similar engine and generation. Surpising.

  14. Hi

Thanks for that, i have got a price on a ECU tune. I had thought that air in take and exhaust would atleast give you moderate gains? or was i just wrong

    Hey Lawrence,

Adding to what Apex said, the only thing on your list that you'd benefit from doing in a particular order is the chip.

The car will need to be retuned to get the most out of a performance chip - If you are 100% sure you'll be modifying the intake/exhaust/etc in the short term it may be worth saving the chip until last to save yourself doubling-up on the tune...!

  15. You will pay a premium for a Corolla because of the name.

Another option is the Allex/Runx - as far as I can tell it's pretty much the same as a Corolla but a Jap import with a few different trim bits. The Allex has chrome trim around the windows, the Runx has black plastic.

I bought one of these 2 years ago for the wife - 2004 on 28,000kms, new condition (and I'm picky), 1.5 vvt for around $12k from memory. I recall the equivalent NZ-new Corolla was around $14-16k at the time.

Not what I'd call a 'thrilling driving experience' but perfect for what it is! It's pretty hard to go past this for a reliable a-to-b around-town runner. It's on 40,000kms now; we've replaced the battery and regularly serviced it, oil is still clean and it runs like new.

A free plug for Wilkinson Trading in Penrose - both Wayne and Blair are great guys; they looked after us well, and I still get a personal b'day card from them each year. Almost unheard of these days.
