  1. I have finally raised the car and sprayed under the engine and waterblasted all of the oil of the motor, I have kept an eye on the driveway where the car has been parked and guess what, NO MORE OIL LEAKS The oil that was leaking out of the front crankshaft seal had made its way all over the engine. After I had the seal done, there must have been excess oil still on the motor and was still dripping of the motor and has gradually dried up, after washing the motor it has cleaned it all away. So pleased as i can now put the cover back under the engine to make the car complete again.
  2. I removed the original clamps fro the power steering hoses and put some screw up clamps on the hoses and both are completely dry. I was onto that as soon as we got the car. If you lye under the car you can see engine oil sitting around the area I explained and the oil runs down the engine and drips off the oil cooler hoses. I dont want to start pulling it to bits until I can get some idea whats leaking and where. Maybe just a silly little oring or something who knows. I will clean engine down again on the weekend if the weather is any good and have another look after running the engine. When the car sits for a couple of days it will leave a patch of oil the size of a saucer as an indication. Thanks again for any info
  3. hi all, i have just had the front crankshaft seal done which was leaking oil and still have a leak from somewhere else. I have done the vanos seals which were leaking also. I had a look under the car and oil is dripping of the two oil cooler hoses, i have checked the valve cover gaskets and they are fine. The oil is dripping from the top of the motor somewhere and is making its way down onto the hoses, it looks to be coming from around the area where the aluminium pipe goes into the cylinder block area. This is the left side of engine sitting in vehicle for example, has anyone had an oil leak like this or has any idea where else it maybe coming from as this is really fustrating. thankyou
  4. Found a glove box torch on fleebay and filled the empty hole in the glovebox,Was missing when we got the car.
  5. I looked into the re002 tyres and they dont do a rear tyre in the 255/40/17 only the front in 235/45/17, I was told i could put re002 on the front and re001 on the rear and I said no. And anyway they had run out of re001 so they would not be an option. I also looked at the toyo tyres aswell and they could only do one size in the front and couldn't do the rear so Goodyear it was and they are German made too.I just couldn't put cheap tyres on a quality car like this if that was the last option. Going for good drive over weekend to central to scuff them in it should be a good drive. I have heard that the bridgestone potenza re002 and re001 tyres are really good and if I was able to get the sizes I wanted i would have gone with them.
  6. just had some new tyres installed on our 1999 BMW 540i Motorsport, They are good year eagle F1 A2's and what a difference. The car is much smoother and they are really quiet. They aren't run in yet but can only get better. When we got the car it had 235/45/17 tyres all round different tread patterns aswell and it drove like a lump and a sack of potatoes the rear tyres are 255/40/17 and front are 235/45/17 and the rear view of the car with the fatter tyres looks great . Just to let everyone know we are very happy with them, These cars are great
  7. I have a 99 540i motorsport V8 which has the M5 quad exhaust tail pipes, The car sounds good at idle but when you put your foot down it sounds like a jet plane, I guess this is called alot of back pressure and would really like the car to have a nice growl when your on the pedal instead of sound like a jet plane. How would I change this without removing the exhaust system and without compromising power. The car has the correct bumper to suit these tail pipes and are tucked under just like the M5. I will see if I can attach a photo. Thankyou for any suggestions
  8. Hi everyone, Just wanting to get your opinion on the bridgestone potenza R001 and R002 tyres for our 99 BMW 540i motorsport, Front size are 235/45/17 and rear are 255/40/17. Like to drive the car hard on occasions and just cruise around town and is used as an everyday drive. It does get driven the way it should be and just need some good rubber. Have heard the potenza's are quiet and stick well and are smooth. Anyone have a second opinion on tyres for these great cars because its always good to have a second one. Thankyou
  9. Hi everyone, I need to replace my front crank seal on my 1999 540i BMW M62 V8 engine, I need the crank holding tool, seal removal and install tool and torque angle guage.i already have the tools to remove the fan but need the other tools to do the job right. If any one can lend me the tools for the weekend I will pay for any costs incured, postage etc. I was looking at buying all the tools but dont think there is any need for a once of job and thought maybe someone out there may have the tools after doing there engine. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.or if you know where i can purchase the correct tools let me know, Thankyou
