Hi guys I have just done a manual conversion on my 318i m10 e30 last weekend and im not sur which oil will be the best to use in it. Its a Getrag 5spd and is kinda hard to get into 1st and 3rd. I have noticed when im at the lights and going to take off I put it into 1st and it slips out into neutral.
plz any advice would be helpful. thank you
When i did the conversion in my car, i used generic ATF ( auto transmission fluid ) in my 5 speed. The gearbox was out of a 320i and a Getrag 240. That stuff has done me fine, even a BMW shop told me that the ATF i used was fine.
Strange aye, ATF in a manual transmission? Thats bmw for ya.

haha I did that to my zxr250 once (sportsbike) exept I was in high school and since I used to cross stuff out rather than use the twink...I had to use it on something! lasted ages to lol
the picture shows it about half a year after it was done so...lasted well
ha, cool, i was thinking of doing it to my bike as well ( i used to have a FZR400 ) like 3 months ago, but i always thought it was just a car thing, so i kept it normal... i have really only seen it on muscle cars before, and speedway cars
pic of bike =)

That looks mint!
Shame I have 4 different crap tyre brands
Yeah i guess it would look a bit on the piss with 4 different brands!
Next time i do it, im gonna take wayy longer, because it certainly aint perfect.
And i wont use a paint brush

very NASCAR
haha yea and NASCAR rocks.
I got the idea from my mate, he just did the same thing on his Camaro
-
Got bored this morning so i got the paint out to see what i could do to make my car stand out a bit more, i wasnt expecting it to be perfect, but im pretty happy with the outcome. ( Im talking about the tyres by the way )
Up close, looks a little rough, but from a couple of meters away it looks the piece, i reckon.
Anyone else done simular?
-
hahaha quite amusing.
But i cant say i would know any better, i know pretty much all exhaust manifolds are made of the same metal, i didnt know it was iron tho
I suck when it comes to metals.
-
exhaust manifolds are overrated anyway =P

thats what im talking about . hahahahahaha asian tourist, been there, hit that. hahaha, yeah i would love to have a vagas trip, but i know thats getting expensive for you guys, let me know on the numbers keen up in auckland, i wanna get some mean photos posted of it aye, probably gunna have a very topic on this awarding/naming "most reckless driver " award, "the asian hater" "longest 2 wheel" award, "most cliff happy" award lol the list is going to be endless,
Well, if you can get the numbers up round 20 - 30 people coming to the auckland luge, then ill head up, im keen for that, dont know about the hawkes bay region, maybe if you compensate for them and have a huge piss up after luging you never know who might cover the distance.
If this does go along, and the numbers are up, my friend will probably bring video camera, and im gunna get some mean photos of us tearing up the tracks, i want plenty of angry photos too, lol the soughta ones that make you crack up laughing. maybe tim eyeing up bravo or some thing hahahaha lol or gus running for his life ?
So are you going to set a date or not?

Just buy my Pfeba bodykit for $6500, it comes with a free manual 325i!

If you get a M20 motor out of the facelift with the front pully on it already, and get the facelift wiring loom and ecu ( 1.3 ) you will be fine. We converted a Motronic 1.0 ( 1986 325i ) to 1.3 and there are a lot of differences, we had to put the pully and sensor on the front ( bolted straight up easy ) but we also had to change a few plugs around ( i.e. the oil level sensor is different ) , rewire a heap of stuff, and on and on, it took ages. And because the car had the fancy sport mode auto in it, at the end of the day, the car was stuck in limp mode because the gearbox ECU wasnt compatible with the newer 1.3 ECU, ( or we were too noob to figure it out. )
If you get a M20 facelift engine, and the ecu and wiring loom out of all the same car, you should be sorted. You may have to break the casing off the ECU plug to get it through the firewall though, we had to do that because the original 1.0 plug is only 2 rows of pins and the 1.3 one is 3 rows of pins, i have no idea about the Jet tronic or whatever its called one though.

was me

Ok so whos the guy i drove past today just up the road from McDonalds in a 320i ( i think ) E30 with a massive bimmersport sticker plastered on the back window?
Just wondering lol
-
good idea. set a date and ill be there.

hey my m20 2.5 is around 170bhp standard right???
what sort of mods could i do to get it some more power
e.g add bigger throttle body from another bmw motor?? different injectors from another bmw motor, ecu etc etc.
also u say getting parts off e bay what e bay do u mean country???
These are my plans for my 325i
First thing to do, if its auto, is to put a manual in. ( nearly finished )
Then chip it ( easier done if you have a Motronic 1.3 ECU, i had motronic 1.0 and had to rewire the entire engine basically with the new facelift loom )
Get AFM off m30 engine, bore out throttle body,
get a cam made?
bigger injectors?
Pod filter, but get a heat shield or it will do nothing but suck hot air into the engine.

I think you will be lucky to make 200hp at the fly let alone the treads on an m20 without very large sums of money or forced induction
Thats what i thought, but i think you could make a little over 200, but not 250 lol
-
this time next year there will be. its generaly because there too expensive to get to the same kind of specs as all this jap crap. ive got the m20b25 motor in my e tirty and im going to be making around 250 horse at the wheels. without any kind of computer chip or forced induction or moded fueling. not to bad if i say so myself. that should be enough to get her sideways.
How do you expect to make that much power? I have been thinking of doing up my M20B25 but keeping it N/A. With a E36 AFM, bored out throttle body, hotted up cam, chipped, i reckon id be lucky to make 230hp.... personally. What do you reckon would make 250bhp? Very interested!

You could speak to your vechicle certifier about who could lengthen your auto driveshaft and rebalance it ect.
might only cost a hundread or two
nah i got one now so its all good
-
I thought 325 and 320 gearbox were same length? Did you measurethem?
I have one now, from a 320i.
Nah i was told by HellBM guy or whatever, that the 240 and 260 gearboxs are different lengths so hense a different length drive shaft.
-
your starter is ok, but you will need to weld a pick up on to the flywheel for the sensors to work
Nope, wont need to, i have pulled the sensors out because Troy and I converted my car to Motronic 1.3. Everything worked out well, but the gearbox ecu doesnt like talking to the engine ecu, so my auto is now in limp mode, hense why i am hurrying up converting it to manual.

Hey guys,
Im converting my 1986 325i (date 10/85 ) to manual next weekend. It has the "sport" auto gearbox in it at the moment and I don't know if I am going to have to get a different starter motor or not. The gearbox I am putting into it is supposively out of a prefacelift 320i but it doesnt have the sensors on the bellhousing in it so im guessing its actually out of a facelift. It says 240.0.0130.90 on the inside of the bellhousing so i guess its a Getrag 240, and the flywheel is single mass. All i really want to know is if my original starter motor is going to be compatable with the single mass flywheel?
Thanks for your help guys.

Converting my 325i to a manual, got all the stuff out of a 320i other than the drive shaft. I have been told only a 320i manual shaft will fit into my car because the 320i manual gearbox i am going to use is a different length than the 325i manual ones.
Does anyone have one???
Thanks.

am not a new owner - had 94 E36 320 for few years but now on own so got a real one for some real fun- 97 E36 323 C black motorsport 5 speed auto- as you all propably aware is a great little car to drive - fast enough for me as can still get into whole heap of trouble with the constablary if not to careful.
have an interest in motorsport in general and love the idea of an E30 for some fun on track etc
cheers all
e30s rock, get one. Welcome. If you wanna check out some cool e30's go on e30tech.com
Manual Conversion Which fluid to use??
in Maintenance
Posted · Report reply
Well i have read on the internet, and been told my various bmw mechanics that ATF is fine is many bmw gearboxs. I think the reason is because it doesnt actually really need its lubrication propertys, but only needs the fluid for the syncros. But thats just what a mechanic told me.
One guy who did a manual conversion told me his gearbox was really clunky when he originally put manual gearbox fluid in it, so he changed over the ATF and it was way better.
