  1. Is it as a simple as chopping off your current mufflers and fitting this one on?
  2. Is it possible to install a new amp and have that run possibly the front speakers + sub but leave factory amp (assuming I have one) running the rears and mid speakers? Also, without really having a look I think I have non-dsp, as I have no equalizer options or DSP option in the menu which im told I should have
  3. might be best for a muffler chop then. budget... at this stage, probably $500 which I doubt would get me far. I still want to upgrade my sound system and keep some money aside for any repairs as I've just bought the car
  4. yep have the two muffler design. just putting a hole in there sounds a bit hori, but if you say it works?? breakmywindow, got any vids of your car running with that?
  5. Trying to figure out what way to go for my 540i. I have been told that a catylac(sp) converter removal can increase HP and give it a good note. Also heard of others deleting the resonator or even just one muffler. However I cant find anything on google (nz searches) to help with this. I am mostly after a better sound more than performance and dont have a huge budget either
  6. Thanks for the links. has anyone used the Eonon unit? Looks like a really nice unit and have been on one of the bimmer forums where Eonon were selling to members and they even uploaded test videos (extreme temperatures, water resistence) etc. (product website) http://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct=j....42261806,d.dGY (showcase video) Can buy from their Australia website with NZ loaded maps for $555AUS + postage. Their official website lists them at $368 US + postage but are out of stock.
  7. thanks Rogan for those links. jeffbebe, that's more like it, I could manage that price range. What are they called so I can search it? How do I tell if I have Dsp or non dsp?
  8. Dynavins are like $1350 by the looks, stuff that! ah really, is there any instructions on how to wire amp to the factory set up?
  9. Curious to know why WOULDN'T I replace the unit I have? Essentially I want to add in a subwoofer and amp so I will need an aftermarket headunit - im not particulary looking for anything more than just a standard cd/aux player however with the room I have it might be nice to just put in a bigger unit with screen etc.
  10. Wondering where I could get my hands on a adapter plug for my stereo wires that currently plugs up to my current system? Also where I could find one of those 'fillers' that fills the gap of the standard stereo space for the smaller aftermarket head units (sorry I have no idea what both of these items are called but Im assuming you will know what im talking about). I have the 4:3 monitor + tapedeck radio in a 540i. Im probably going for just a standard head unit but is there any such aftermarket monitor/stereo/dvd combo that plugs up?
  11. txted the old owner today, he reckons he changed the ccv so its fairly new. might try change fuel filter. icv was clean as well.
  12. Cool. I did the oildipstick test, no sucking when I put my thumb over.... Going to try a vaccum leak tommorow as the prev owner replaced tensioners perhaps and left a leak when putting it back togeather.
  13. K ive noticed two things: first - not sure if its sopose to - but the ICV is emitting a loud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep noise when the key is switched to on position. I can only assume that it is a normal noise. Going to give the ICV a clean out tommorow Also this loud whistling noise when the car is running: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABi8lgL-SJY. Could it be the valve cover gasket? The prev owner changed tensioners so might not have put back on properly?
  14. its more audible next to the rocker cover than by the intake/fan or CCV. Gah might have to investigate this as well.
  15. did you have a whining/whistling noise? this is mine
  16. what replacement hoses did you use? also Im not getting any smoke or rough idle, which seems like one of the probs associated with bad cvv...
  17. hey man have now read your thread about the ccv cover! How were the hoses, in that video link you gave me on my thread they look like they came off easy, infact that guy ran into no troubles whatsoever. Anything else to watch out for when doing this?
  18. Thanks for the help Jason H, much appreciated Wonder if I should change the AFM first, or just do both as preventive anyway? Lucky i still have my old run about so I can park the Bimmer up for the time being.
  19. seems to be exactly this. just took it for a drive, appeared to be sluggish when cold which I understand rules out the o2 sensor as when faulty it will behave normal while cold but not when warmed up. I pulled out the dipstick and could hear gurgling and sucking. Took oil cap off, it was easy to take off but you could hear air and it spat oil out.
  20. thanks for that will give it a go. failing that, I might try disconnect the o2 sensor as similar problems ive searched online suggest bad pre cat o2 sensor. Is it safe to just disconnect the o2 sensor to go for a test drive? Or am I best to just straight replace them?
  21. Hi guys, I have noticed of a power loss between 2-3.5k RPM. When accelerating there seems to be a lack of power but appears to pick up and go after 3.5k RPM. Is the same when I put my foot right down as well. It seems like my fuel consumption has gone up and, not sure if I've only just noticed now, but you can perhaps smell fuel when idling (at least when the car is warming up). Has anyone had similar problems? 1997 e39 540i automatic.
  22. Yep well he either thought it would hold up or is making it up that it is sound all over. He would be stupid to try rip me off or lie to me considering I know who he is and I just live down the road lol, but he seems all good
  23. Yeah got that 540i last Friday. Nah didnt get it checked, have blind trusted the guy but he swears its sound all over. In really good nick, has been well treated and drives nice. Actually know the guy from school etc, he has alot of bimmers at his house lol. Loving the car though BUT had to replace the radiator expansion tank as it had a shitty patch job on the inlet
  24. Looks like ill be taking the plunge and probably getting the 540i I just posted. Just hope I dont come to regret it with hefty bills!!
  25. He reckons the waterpump, surrounding seals, thermostat, some pipes, and viscous fan have been replaced. And the serpentine belt. Looks like il lbe doing some research on the m62 tonight! Cheers for the offer Brent, if only your 3 series was at least the 2.2 or even 2.0 litre, would be well keen on a manual e46 in black with sunroof. Slightly OT - A mate of mine had a 525i, the model before e39. Gave it absolute death, was still going all good at 300k's before he got rid of it only had his torque converter go and something went balls up with his fan but suprisingly held up good for the amount of rapage it got lol.
