  1. Lmao I meant e46, sorry first thing in the morning I wasn't thinking so fresh. Yes I did ask the same on the FB page!
  2. They seem to vary in price, between 7-12k depending on year and trim level...what about a 2000 auto? [edit] I mean E46 not 39!

    1997 E39 540i

Not serious to sell right now, but am looking for a E46 in manual that I would definitely consider in a swap trade. 1997 E46 540i 179xxx KM's Tiptronic Lowered slightly 17" AC Schitzner wheels Exterior in great condition however there is mark on the back left bumper. Interior also in good condition.
  4. Might be interested in any aftermarket mufflers or exhaust systems out there for my e39 540i if someone's got one going for a good price? Please PM me. cheers,
  5. Tough decision, will probably pass on it. Im not actually looking to upgrade yet, just saw an opportunity to get a E90 545i for a good price. My partner is actually working with the owner at the moment and alerted me to it. While I can afford a E60, I am saving for a house so perhaps not a best idea to shell out for pricey cars. Still keen for a change, might list my E39 and look at cheaper models, like a E46 325i or 330i
  6. Thanks, thats helpful info! This is the one in concern: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-752573778.htm And there is this one $1 reverse, currently at $8k, closing tommorow. Mind you tommorow is way too early to make my decision, especially without a check :|
  7. Cheers for the further input. Apparently there is a full service history on this
  8. Might have to stick with the current E39 then Probably just as much as a time bomb though lol.
  9. Yes only reason I am considering it is because, to me, it seems like a very cheap price and its perhaps an opportunity to own a car I would really like for a deal. Otherwise i'm not concerned. However it does have a valve seal problem which has been estimated at about 3k to fix. Is this a huge issue that needs to be addresed sooner than later? And it seems to be high k's for the model, so I would expect things to start wearing down now, im okay with cheap-moderate expenses and things I can do myself, but its the sudden problems that cost four figures I dont want.
  10. Don't know much about this model so any info, common prob's etc about these? Thinking of upgrading from my E39. One in particular im looking at is a 2004 545i that's done 169KM's and apparently has worn valve seals, but going what seems pretty cheap for $13k. I imagine 169KM's is getting quite high, mind you my E39 has done 179KM's and other than annoying things starting to fault (windows and door problems lol) runs fine.
  11. There must surely be an oil that is commonly agreed on?
  12. Going to change out engine and diff oils this weekend, whats the best oils to use for both and how much estimated should I need?
  13. The good thing is my dad is a panelbeater so i can use a floor jack and possibly the hoist if its free. Am I doing a visual inspection and will I be able to see everything without the exhaust being in the way? Also one last question, would my faulty battery have anything to do with this?
  14. Ah I see.... Just did what you said in the post, exactly as described. Would wait 30 sec after putting it into neutral from drive, then put into park and no noise. Got a tow home and the battery decided to act up again and lose power and subsequently got the trans prog fail safe error, so now im dead flat too lol... Cant get under the car tonight to check for anything loose, but by the sounds of it, do you reckon this will be the case?
  15. Ah just on the Guibo, after doing some googling. I have had this clicking noise coming from the car recently also, I thought it was to do with my wheel because the noise appeared after being coming back from a shop for getting some break pads/alignment/wheel bearing but it sounds exactly like this noise in this video which is a guy demonstrating a clicking noise from his flex disk guibo... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcEHDidPYBc
  16. Thanks, will give these a go after work. I can select gears as normal, and prior to this there was no erratic shifting or noises or anything that made it suspect like it was going to give... It is almost like something popped loose randomly.
  17. As far as I understand you cant check because aren't they sealed off?
  18. Expecting this is going to be to big of a problem and im just going to have to get it to a shop but thought i'd try the forums first. 1997 E39 540i, Tiptronic Transmission, 180xxx k's. Driving to work this morning, stop at T intersection. Might have been in neutral while I was stopped, but as I go to drive it pops out of gear and from there no gear will work, not reverse, and putting into tiptronic I tried all the gears and no luck. No warning lights came up either. I managed to roll to the side of the road thankfully. I do notice, when I put it into park there is a groaning noise as I do this. Evident on the youtube vid below (15 seconds long, you can hear the problem clearly. Does it seem like the transmission has given up? Or could it potentially be something small? Things to note lately: 1. my battery was playing up after been drained flat a couple times, and I got the Trans Prog Failsafe error twice recently but the battery was dead flat at this point, which is a common problem with a faulty battery I hear. Problem went away once battery was charged up. 2. loud whining noise from the rear, have suspected this to be a wheel bearing or diff, but wonder if this could have been be trans related instead? 3. I have had the ABS/Traction Control lights come on problem a couple times recently too. It goes away after a while though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY-DzU8Kcq4 edit - forgot to add, will codes be thrown? I have a reader somewhere around I should stick on.
  19. PS just for future reference if anyone stumbles upon this, replaced HCV and its been all good. problem solved.
  20. I removed the cabin filters when I looked, could not see or feel any splits and there doesn't seem to be any evidence there of any leaks unlike by the HCV
  21. Did some investigating in the weekend. Can't find any split hoses by feeling around, no loose connections either. AFAIK the prev owner said most of the cooling system had been replaced and some of it quite evident, so most of the things in there should be new(ish) I have white residue directly under the heater control valve and cant seem to see any other coolant spillages at the rear of the engine or up the front. I'm pretty certain it must be coming from the heater control valve and seeing as I have the constant hot air rushing into the cabin it seems like its probably dead anyway so putting 2 and 2 togeather... I sopose it can leak from the unit itself as the hoses around seem okay my question is is it possible to leak a fair bit enough to spray onto that banks exhaust to create the steam? If its a failed heater control unit, im confident enough to do the job myself but perhaps the more experienced people out there can warn me if there would be anything else to check or other things that could have been damaged as a result?
  22. Hi Ray, thanks any chance of getting a price (can PM if you want). Also is your shop up in silverdale? Just thinking easiest way to get there if I decide to let a pro do the work instead of myself heh. Cheers, (ps cheers Blue)
