  1. Yeah, anyone that thinks BMW didn't put a little thought into the air box design and filter element are kidding themselves.

Some experiments I've conducted over the last few years with an MX-5 and a 220hp Primera on Taupo race track showed best results with a factory air box, force fed with a decent amount of cold air.

Induction roar is great when you're out pulling hoes and/or impressing mates...but ultimately no faster & sometimes quite a bit slower.

  2. What sort of price range are you talking..? Small apartments in NZ vary quite a lot in value depending on City and suburb.

I like to keep a close eye on investments...if you can visit regularly or trust the property management service and if the region is showing signs of growth for a strong return I guess it's a nice option.

  3. Simply brilliant :D

When you consider this is the heavy 'luxury' model, aimed at the regular 998 turbo and that more focused models will appear later and no doubt beat the existing Porsche GT2 and possibly Carrera GT times, just as the BCNR33 beat Porsche in the '90's...pretty impressive.

I'd still love a comparable Porsche but they are tripple the price...

  4. M3 what? GT-R is in a different league...

wait for the NISMO edition(s) :D

I know there's a lot of GT-R faithful with their chequebooks at the ready and orders already placed!

The rest of us are just scared that it will beat our old war horses, in near standard form!

  5. My partner, Sharon put 'em on there Yuen. The Japanese don't call 'em Godzilla but Kaiju they understand,(!) and Chinese too :)

Engine ran beautifully yesterday :). The beast was straining at the leash with those motorsport spec snails ready to pack half an atmosphere inside at any moment...

Running in oil is still commonly used though for a shorter duration what with engine part clearances being so close these days.. Be impossible to bed rings in to cylinder bores using high class synthetic oils so a few miles with some light friction is necessary. Another 500kms today and then out with the running in oil and filter and will use a high grade mineral oil for another 1000kms then onto synthetics for life...

  6. Kaiju litterally means monster or mysterious beast. King Kong is a kaiju as are other mythical Japanese monsters but their most famous Kaiju is 'GODZILLA' .

Every moving part has been replaced in the bottom end barring the rods and crank which were balanced etc. and the head was fully reconditioned right down to Tomei bronze valve guides.

here she pumped out 280whp at all four wheels on only 8psi - 360whp on 15psi.

The new build will generate approximately 450whp at all four with out leaning hard on her at all :D

Good for uber fast quarter mile action, 300km/h attempts and all that but the real buzz is the way she warps time between corners, slows then leaps to the next braking zone!

Images from Okiata Ferry landing when we took her off her last owner in Russel last summer

and in a friends yard in Paihia, taken from a deck from above, beside our old Primera.

  7. After 3 months of heartache our beautiful R33 GT-R is returning to us with her new, forged insides, rebuilt engine and RS580 Nismo turbos.

I am so excited about running her in over the long weekend I can't wait to knock off work early & get stuck in...dozens of litres of fuel, running in oil and filters are soon to meet their end at the hands of Kaiju, our fire breathing monster!

Expected outcome once run in & retuned? 550-600hp :)

And a lovely leather clad 328i Bimmer to back her up :)

    I'm so stoked right now!

  8. Respect is earnt bro.

The manual conversion is well worth it if your a 'driver' and I'd have searched harder for both a manual car in the first instance and then for your answers on the net before asking such a general question.

You have been accorded the appropriate level of courtesy and IMHO you've been let off lightly thus far - on many other forums you'd have been flamed hard by now! Bimmersport is a pretty friendly place.

Text typing and modern abbreviations aren't encouraged in these environs, so lighten up bro & fill in the empty spaces with your next post huh?

    peace

    Andy

  9. Would be a shame to lose the low end grunt she has but as long as the mid range up didn't suffer - it'd be much like the engine's we're used to...but without the 8500rpm ceiling...The clutch feels like it hasn't got a loong life left in it...might take that opportunity to lose the dual mass flywheel!

  10. I'm really digging the second shot!

    Tidy ride mate, well done!

    Cheers JP.

    Looks Good Andy.

I'm enjoying the euro ride :)

    Nice car man! Cool pics.

Are those m5 rims? Please tell me if I'm a n00b.

    Thanks dude.

The rims are indeed M5. Replicas though, in E36 fitment, from Route Replica Company.

    I love that leather!

    Is it NZ new?

Leather rocks! Imported with 10k on the clock in 2000 from S.A.

loving the leather, and 18 button obc

Replace the intake with an E28 535 one (I think) as it doesn't have the restrictor the 328i had. Also the restrictor in the air cleaner housing. Those mods give you 15-20 hp straight away apparently according to Rob at Bavarian.

Awesome, thanks. Where is the main restrictor? The aircleaner housing one I've found already :)

    cheers all

    Andy

  11. Taken a few weeks to make the time to snap some pics. New wheels & tyres, shortshifter and audio system fitted.

Colour coding of bump strips yet to happen + new headlights/indicators, exhaust & intake.

She drives well and I enjoy the flexible nature of the engine. Some more top end urge would be welcome though ;P
