  1. Old one was touching our heads on our way home from shopping on sunday so we decided to stop at spotlight and take a look at some materials....

In the end it wasnt my decision so we went home with a hugely marked down piece of fake white fur, approx 1.15x1.5m  for $15,  adding the price of 2 cans of spray adhesive and the whole job cost about $40.

It looks kind of odd... but it feels amazing ?.  The whole job took maybe 2.5 - 3 hours, a lot of that time was spent working out how to take interior apart and actually get the fiberglass out of the car in 1 piece.

  2. Okay so i impulse bought this :

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MEWANT-for-BMW-E36-E46-E39-Black-Artificial-Leather-Car-Steering-Wheel-Cover-Interior-Accessories-Parts/32816504592.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.pWyU3A

Then realised it wont fit my e36 steering wheel (same 3 spoke design less buttons).

So im just wondering if this shape wheel can be retrofitted into the e36 without much issue?  Eg do the airbag plugs match...  Im not worried about stereo controls, ill probably rig them up to do something else / try make them work with an aftermarket headunit.

I have seen people do the e39 button steering wheel retrofit to e36 so im assuming itl work...

Anyway if so i want to buy one! if anyone has one spare please lemme know ?  And if it cant be retrofitted to e36, does anyone with this steering wheel wanna buy a cheap cover? (black stitching).

  3. So i decided it was time for a power upgrade... Flew to Chch and drove this home:

My previous daily has been a calypsorot 318i sedan manual for the past 11 years,  im really enjoying the hp increase.  So i've decided ill drive it for about 6 months before i do any power increasing mods so i can really get a feel for the engine.

My plans include: complete new cooling system,  m50 intake,  forced induction (distant goal).

I would really appreciate any advice from those of you with more experience than i with the 6cyl engine =),  I have a good running m50b25 sitting in a junker at home (see previous posts), ill be using that for parts for the intake mod.

Is it worth my time buying an EMP Stewart water pump?  Do i really need the extra flow? i have read that they have a high failure rate.

  4. another update, just in case anyone else has trouble with this sort of swap.

Got the engine running by cutting green wire #7 in the front 25pin engine harness plug, after some research i found

this is the signal wire for the ews system to tell the dme not to fire spark / inject fuel.

sorry for all the dumb questions! this is my 2nd engine swap and i have no mechanical training so im learning a lot

    as i go..

Very pleased with my success today, the 325 motor roars with no exhaust!

  5. update:

im half blind!, not really but my face is burning.

The relays seem to be correctly oriented, starter motor is turning over... i wasnt sure if it was getting fuel so i undid a fuel line which had a lot of back pressure and spewed petrol all over my face =(.

I reversed the fuel lines to the fuel rail in case i had them backwards. Does it matter which way the fuel goes into the fuel rail?

Still hasnt started yet but its cranking which is progress. Im thinking theres a wire i need to snip for it to start (i've seen info on this before when others did OBD1 engine ->OBD2 chassis conversions)

  6. Hey guys, turned the key for the first time on my engine swapped 318i today, got dash lights but when i went to start the car the starter went click and i lost power to everything!

The engine swap is an OBD1 1993 m50tub25 into a 1995/6 OBD2 318i e36, to i need to cut any wires to bypass the immobilizer?

Also im not sure if these relays are oriented correctly... anyone got a working 325i for an example?

After messing around with the battery and interior lights i got dash lights back but im too scared to turn the key any further!!

    Thanks

    -Kieran

  7. Does the e36 318i run a different fuel pump to the e36 325i?

Im getting very close to firing up the m50tub25 that i just swapped into my 318i, I've just reconditioned my injectors with new o-rings and microfilters and pintle caps but before i fire the engine up i want to make sure im not going to starve it of fuel.

Also what kind of manifold sealant should i use between the plastic intake and the engine?

    Thanks

    -Kieran

  8. Edit... just read that it is an e36, similar to an e30?

Be careful when removing the handbrake cable, you can ruin the flexible line. As the flexible line connects to a steel tube which can be stuck due to age, rust etc. You may need some grips to twist the connection between the flexible line and steel tube to loosen it up before pulling it out. The flexible line has a steel joint which sits inside the steel tube, do not twist the flexible line itself.

Removing Axle: You should not need a hammer to remove the axles... I pulled one out of an e30 the other day, just pulled on it. You just need a 30mm socket and a long long bar or section of steel tube for undoing the nut. Getting the locking washer out was interesting, I used a sharpened steel rod, punch through the washer and pry it out.

the lines werent too difficult to pull out after the nuts had been unscrewed from under the hand brake lever, i dont think theres any significant damage or warping. The e30 handbrake system does look very similar (i have an e30 parts car also)
