  1. Fusion head unit? I haven't heard anything good about them at all...

You don't need all the flashy features of the 9887. You'll get better sound with proper speaker placement and some sound deadening. A lot of the top guys in Australia don't use time alignment. It all comes down to your install.

  2. So another set back.. I had my car taken into pitstop as one of the exhaust studs broke and the gasket was leaking. I would've done it myself but was going away for new years and wanted it running so I could run in the motor before I left again for uni.

They decided to drill it out and failed. They now tell me that 'someone did a hash job of it before hand and the head has to come off to get it drilled out'.

After all the trouble I've had changing this head (bent valves on new head, engine reconiditioners not finishing the job) forking out for a new gasket set and head bolts seems a bit much when it's just one exhaust stud.

So is it possible to get it drilled out while still in the car? Anyone recommended to do this in Hawkes Bay?

The car is an e21 320/6. Just changing the head has nearly cost more than the car after all the problems getting shops to do the work while I'm away.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Tom

  3. Gavin at euro italian has had the lowest prices for every part I've compared. That and you get some chocolate :D

And yeah, Jeff Gray owned a yellow 2002, not sure if he still does. He's a friend of the families and a really, really good guy. Last time I saw him (a few years back now..) I think he was in an X5.

  4. The last two bolts were hidden by a plate which just required two bolts to be removed so it swung out of the way.

Everything put back together OK and minus a small oil leak (oops, missed a bit...) it's all fine. Good enough that I finally got the car started after having it not running for a year :D

  5. I'm replacing my sump gasket on my e21 320/6 (m20b20) and I'm having a few problems with a few bolts that I can't get tools to because of the steering rack and bell housing.

I've got 22 bolts out, and I can only see one more but I'm told there's 24.

Anyone had experience with this before?

  6. There's a nice mod that's been done by serious SQ guys over in Aus to the processor. I'll PM you a link to it tonight if you're interested.

Just read your thread on bimmerforums. Now I see why you're going 6x9's! A bit disappointed you've let someone else make your pods, but hopefully they turn out good. I like the overkill on most things, but I think your limiting factor will be speaker placement (like most other bmws..)

I see you like your image dynamics :D

  7. Yeah, power wire and RCAs can be an issue, but sometimes it doesn't matter. Like most car audio it's just testing and seeing what works and what doesn't, because every car is different. I've fixed problems with the wires crossing, then experimented in my car and had no problems crossing them multiple times. Anyway...

Thanks for that rogan. Just another way the HUs can break. I've never had a problem with pioneer myself, and I've owned about 3 of their units. Although I'll disagree with that 95%...

I wonder if hellboy has checked his grounds or tried a new HU.

  8. If they have touched it'll be blown, so if they aren't touching now that doesn't change anything. Pioneer units are known to do this.

The RCAs and the amp power wire should never cross, so run the RCAs on one side of the car and the power wire on the other, along with the remote wire.

Are both your amps grounded in the same place? Although this noise shouldn't change with the revs.

If the RCAs do not go near any power wire at all, try another head unit. If the noise goes away, it's either a faulty HU or you let the RCAs touch while powered (or they touched bare metal).

And don't buy a noise suppressor. A proper install should never need one.
