  1. Yeaaaaaahhhhhh.... So 15 days later its back on the road, second hand engine (meh cheaper than the headgasket alone...) seems alright so far. Pulled the carpet and RUST!!! so some repairs were done using an old foglight blank as the steel inserts bahaha...

  2. Thanks for the input guys, sorted another 325i e36 one, engine still in peices having had to swap my sump and everything so yet to test it all.

e34 M50 one is about 10-15cm too wide for the e30 chassis from memory, tried that one already haha.

    Cheers

  3. Hi guys,

Thought Id finally ask some pertinent questions on here as Ive now no idea what Im doing.

The cars had an m50b25NV swap using a g260 gearbox. It also has no heater connected as thats screwed too amongst other things :/

(Recently stuffed that gearbox (3rd on now haha) and the new gearbox I got is a lot smoother and quieter than any of the other ones, so I was quite happy with that. Nearly got WoF but more problems have now arisen)

So after putting in a new gearbox, a couple of oils seals it needed etc, and possibly more relatively a NEW Thermostat, it has run happily for about a week.

Then, driving to pick up some headlights for the WoF (turns out my smileys both have L marked on them, and they failed it on Left hand beam pattern being tilted) it overheated.

Every time I try to bleed it now, temp gets to normal, but the expansion tank starts boiling back or just not dropping like it should. Ive tried my usual method of ramming water into the tank with the bleed screw out till no more air bubbles come out, then start it up, expansion tank drops maybe an inch, then starts slowly coming back up or just sitting there, and eventually boils.

Dropped the oil, no sign of water. Theres a few droplets of water spitting out the exhaust. Havent seen any oil come back into the water either. Underside of the cap looks ok too.

Im obviously suspecting headgasket/cracked head, but, yeah. I dont have the special tool that bentley reckons you need to pull the head on these (Long reach thin walled E12 i think) but obviously its easy enough to make it thin walled with the grinder (Just like that pesky gearbox output flange socket) but im just asking if anyone that knows what theyre doing has any ideas, or if I should just leave it and pick up another engine and chuck that in instead.

    Cheers,

    Bradd

  4. Yeah shes screwed now, starts boiling back out the expansion tank within bout a minute, can hear hissing inside the block. Wah wah.

Any suggestions other than strip it apart and do the head gasket? Stroke to 2.8 etc etc? or just grab another second hand engine?

  5. Haha i wish, nah the f**ker jammed in reverse, no one here would deal with it so i got another. The old diff was just that, old, then i welded it poorly and it died haha. Just the growing list.

The main problem I have currently is that occasionally itll get hot and spew water out of the radiator cap, and i cant figure out why. It always seems to have excessive pressure in the coolant lines they all get rock hard. Is it poor bleeding or what? Doesnt seem to be anything i can find...

  6. Yeah, on my 3rd gearbox now, love blowing those f**kers up. also on the 3rd or 4th diff I cant even remember now. Other than that still going good, gotta replace a balljoint and a rack boot. Will post some more photos later on...

  7. Hey,

Pulling the injector rail last night ended up snapping a cap off an injector, a peice is still in cylinder 3 unfortunately, but, I cannot find anywhere to buy the damn caps in palmerston north

BMW is useless, and think it either comes with the injector or the oring but have no clue, and the only bosch dealer I know of down here doesnt have anything remotely similar.

They are the green ribbed ones, out of an m50b25 NV, has anyone got any theyd be willing to sell?

    Cheers

  8. They make it sit perfectly but it would be easier for you just to get the right mounts as the izuzu ones required a bit of fabrication to get them at the right height.

Need fabrication, But the M5 e28 required at least a 5mm spacer for me, using a golf booster without the firewall slotted, and had to shave 3 fins off the intake manifold.

Come have a look today tomorrow if youre keen man, the engines coming back out, f**ked the shitty gearbox I got off trademe...
