  1. State? Agreed value on my STi and Civic Type R. Both 2002 models, both modified, <$800 pa ea, comprehensive. Clean licence, 23yo.

They wouldn't do agreed value on my old '89 e30 touring though, also modified. I think they prefer newer cars, but have been very good to deal with. Worth giving them a go?

  2. I'm fastidious about logging fuel usage, over the past 4 months with my STi I'm doing 11.15l/100km.....no matter how I drive. Lol. Quite good for a Turbo 4wd I thought. About the same as our old 328i around town!

Sure do miss the touring! Was doing 7.9l/100km when I had it and I drove it reasonably hard everywhere!

Out of interest what are 3.0L m3 owners getting for fuel consumption?

  3. As above. Need a set for street duty, tyres that were meant to come with my wheels were rooted. Budget depends on brand, etc.

Would like a stiff sidewall if possible, a la RE050/RE040. (Bit of an odd size so can't find 040/050 in stock, not interested in RE001's).

    Cheers.

  4. Dishwashing liquid is essentially a degreaser which is good at removing the plasticizers and softerners found in car rubbers - windscreen, weather strips, tyres, etc. So that's my main reason for Automotive cleaners on cars - ie don't use dish washing liquid.

Imho, the best course of action would be to get the wheels refurbished (or cut/polished if the damage is superficial) and then waxed afterward. After this a weekly wipe down with a damp cloth works a treat :)

  5. Start here and see where you end up. The Amercian voice is not that pleasant but its free and works very well.

    Goole maps [brut]

What I meant was the updates are not automatic. In each country the service providers decide how soon any updates are done. VF in the UK for example have kept a couple of Android updates to themselves for a while before sending them out.

I've been getting updates as soon as they hit the US? So, I assumed that the updates were universal, guess not..

Running 2.2.1 at the moment, brut maps hasn't really worked properly on my phone since Eclair tbh :(

  6. If your car's setup for a stiff sidewall then you'll probably like the RE11's. My brief experience with them back to back with my r888's of the same size was interesting. About the same limit as the r888's with what felt like less slip angle, but steering response was well up from the r888's.

I reckon they'd be trickier to drive 10/10ths.

It really is hard to get decent data tested in NZ on NZ roads with NZ specification tyres.

Would love to see a mega test with tyres as Wheels Magazine does, take say 10 of the common performance tyres on ten sets of wheels and fit them to a control car, say a 330i and let the data do the talking, take into account cost, wear, noise ride and performance.

Bit of a bias test - some tyres suit different cars better, not to mention lack of repeatability and driver consistency :)

I reckon just try different ones till you find some that suit your car/driving. Not hard to get an idea of what tyres are like from reviews, e.g. T1R's are soft, etc

If you reaaallly wanted, you could send samples to Calspan

  7. Have had my Nexus One since Feb ish I think? Very very useful phone. At the time the competition was only Maemo/N900 and iPhone 3GS, neither of which did everything I wanted.

I think the Android platform is more value for money, but the bling (stainless CnC case, screen, etc) of the iPhone 4 can't be ignored. But I don't think I could go back to Apple knowing how much my Nexus One is capable of....

I went for the Nexus One as I love updates :D The idea of getting extra functionality every couple of months is awesome.

Turn by turn navigation is free too ;)

.....Whaaaaat? My Google Nav still says "Not available in this region". I had a hacked Nav for a bit when still running Eclair, and that was amazing - the info it manages to provide is very impressive.

Btw, the updates are not dependent of the network - it just gets pushed OTA via any internet connection :)
