  1. I was wondering if any one can help me. I drove into town this morning, temp gauge all good, but once sitting idling, the temp went up. Not into the red, just over halfway. Checked water level, all good, drove home (15 min drive) gauge normal, parked to open gate, and temp went up again. Have just checked water level, and is normal. Can any one tell me what the problem might be please?

    Cheer

    Joy

Fairly normal for a e36 - cooling system was not a strong point.

Clutch on the fan, then thermostat, and lastly, the waterpump itself. Some have plastic impellers which chipped and became less effective as they got older....

  2. What he said.

The Panasonic plasmas are stunning. LCD is over. LED is up and coming. If you are a gamer, then LED is great, it is sharp and crisp. But, I have found that Plasma looks more natural and has incredible depth to the picture with no ghosting on fast motion.

Some people say that plasma is "old tech" - but so is the 4 stroke engine. Years of refinement.

Plasma if you are a movie nut.

This is hard to read =D Working at DSE we have to know these things but i dont really have time to type most of it out.

    Just to bravo:

Some Plasmas will burn but getting something like the new Panasonic range you wont get this.

The Refresh rate is a hard one everyone things it something different but in a nut shell Plasma with 600htz sub frame drive is faster then 100htz

And your right on full LED back Lighting been very expensive and i think you can only get in LG atm.

Saying this i would ask myself [You]

    What are you after?

Is it for sport more then anything?

    Do you want 3D?

    dose money really matter?

Is it going in a very sunny room?

Best TV that we sell i would have to be

has wireless has USB HDD Recording meaning you dont need to buy a HDD recorder

Picture i would say just as nice as there LED.

Hard to explain online but if i was close i would show you everything i have learned

  3. My company develops software for all of these platforms - I've had iPhone2, 3, 3GS, 4, Nexus Ones, HTC Heros etc etc - you get the picture. I use a Nexus One and iPhone4 daily.

    Simple way to choose.

If you are a geek, mingy on money and love to hack your phone and proud when it does stuff others don't. Make calls, email, twitter, web etc.

    ** Android

If you just want to use your phone, email, twitter, apps, web etc, but not too much geek stuff - just get stuff done.

** iPhone (or Win7, but it is very limited even compared to iPhone.)

If you don't want any friends

** Nokia or Blackberry. (They are so far behind, and nothing coming up. I've seen their previews - no clue.)

    :D

Apps a better on iPhone. Android Marketplace is a bit hit and miss, but there are some good ones there. I like both, but when I need to quickly make calls, email etc etc, I naturally go for the iPhone.

  4. Cool.

I wouldn't have minded the long version either :)

So you're saying the torque from low down is comparable between the two? I knew the twin scroll setup was pretty tricky but does that bottom end pull rival the V8?

I guess all we need now is piccies :D Is this one black too?

The gearing of the M3 seems to counter any advantage the 335 engine has on low down torque. I'd call them pretty close (maybe a small edge to the 335??) The 335i is pumping out max torque at 1700rpm and goes right through to redline. But, after 5000, the M3 is up and away. It's not a normal V8. Low end torque isn't a big feature like a chev - at all. It wakes up and screams all the way to 8300 - when the rev limiter kills the power , almost immediately.

The 335i was a black coupe, the M3 is a white 4 door....

  5. Did you trade in the 335 with all the extra goodies you'd added to it?

And how do they compare, the tweaked 335 and the M3? Please discuss :)

Well, I can write a big essay - but maybe the highlights package will be better...

    Engine:

M3 V8 vs 335 6TT. The 335i engine is just a monster from the bottom end - but runs out of puff from about 6500 onwards. The M3 is almost the opposite. Good low down, then rockets into an insane top end from about 6000 through to 8300. I'm not a huge fan of your "traditional" V8 (ala Holden, Chev, Ford etc), but in this guise, it is almost like 2x maniac 4 cylinder M3 engines bolted together rather than a "V8". (Thats the way I like to describe it).

The 335i is no slouch, but the M3 is better.

    Chassis:

M3 hands down. The car is stiffer and has this amazing turn in. You really have to try hard to get it to understeer, oversteer is quite easy. The 335i chassis would understeer if you pushed it too much. I guess it is a safety thing.

    Brakes:

    Huh! M3.

    Comfort:

335 is just a bit more relaxed. Good long distance driver. The M3 is good too, but the suspension and possibly the setup of the chassis are always a bit "stiffer" than the 335.

    Gas:

    335i: 11 litres per 100 average

    M3: 13.8 litres per 100 average

So, as predicted, the M3 is a better car for the aggressive driver. You could never make a 335i into an M3 - no matter how much money you spend on mods. There are just some fundamental design differences.

I would buy another 335i without hesitation - great machine. I *am* loving the M3....

  6. Not at all - just sometimes people change handles and you struggle to figure out who they are

So you finally jumped for the M3 huh :)

Yeah. 335i came out of warranty and BMW NZ suddenly decided that they don't do extended warranty anymore. (Even though they said they did, I even had the money out standing at the service desk to buy it when the call came through to say no)

So, I traded it on the M3. Then they put the 335i on the yard. With 2 years extended warranty. Still pissed about that, but hey, that's cars eh.

  7. I'm using Valvoline VR-1 10w40

I'd have used Elf, but I can't really find it here when I want it.

the only oil it uses, is the oil it leaks hahah.

Haha, I had a few of those "leak" thingies too!! Took off the lower clutch housing and found 2 sump bolts rolling around - and the rest of the sump bolts were near finger tight. Sorted now! Little less oil on the driveway now.

Right, car sorted for now. 20/50 oil, new filter, coolant, air filter, plugs and checked out heaps of bits and pieces. Good day for it!

  8. The only "hump" I can think of would be the crest of the hill, which is about 60m or so before the pit entrance. I always give my head liner a little bump with my helmet going over it and I'm not doing 190kph. On my first visit to HD it was damp in the morning and after the first session myself and others were chatting in the pits and a couple of drivers had made steering adjustments at that crest and nearly came to grief.

    My condolences to all involved

    Latest news article says:

"Porter was just five minutes into his "ride day" event when his front wheel became airborne after coming over a rise on the final corner of the track."

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article....jectid=10684284

Its a tough one. People are calling for safety airbags along the side of the track - others think the hump should be fixed. Its the one place on the track which I have never liked - and I always wondered why the hell it was designed in like that. Seems weird.

  9. From what I have heard he got into a tank slapper coming over the hump and lost control.

Very sad, he was doing the right thing and keeping it off the roads and in a controlled environment in order to better his riding skills. Condolences to all involved and RIP rider.

    Sad to hear.

I've always wondered about that bloody hump in the track - was it part of the track design - or a mistake which everyone has just ignored?

  10. V 8 not so Super cars suck big time bringing in real cars with real performance might make it interesting

But last time there was an open type formula these old shitters from the 60's got beaten so THEY changed the rules to suit just themselves.

Maybe they will enter the B&H e30 M3 again...what a kick ass machine!!!!
