My question here is - Is there anything stopping me from putting an expansion tank from one of the e38 v8 engines into my cooling system chain?

Is it too big? will it explode? is it too small? does it work differently from the stock one?

I have access to a e38 v8 expansion tank and I'm thinking about replacing mine with it and I'm just wondering if this wont work.

Don’t have either of those, so metal punch may be the cheaper option out of the two

chisel type one 

use a metal punch and a hammer , grind heads off etc , all easy options

yup comon issue for these tio fail , go open circuit causes fuel mixture to go pig rich 

also the cold start injector thermo timer switch can go bad 

also AFM resistance scale can go high resistance 

start with vac leaks , many places they can leak from , many old rubber and plastic hoses that can crack etc
