Hmmmm I'm really in a dilemma now. My heart says M3 my brain says keep the BRZ. I've always loved every minute in the old E36 and E46 M3's I've had so my heart says yes but my brain says otherwise. At the end of the day were you satisfied with the repair of the car or was that the cause of you wanting to sell it early?

I wonder if 26.5k be low balling for the car? That would give me some extra funds from the bidget for me to do some maintenance work on the car for my peace of mind.

I'm selling on behalf of my friends who are heading overseas. Its a 98 318Ti Jap import in Blue. Done 87000km and its been serviced regularly by its only owner since 2005. Got a custom made muffler from my e36 m3 to sell. This exhaust is from the headers to the end (one piece) Its quite tidy in welds, gets rid of the cat and straight through design. Has a nice growl but not too loud from the inside. Asking 400 ONO I'll post photos of it in the weekend. Thanks

Dont worry I can't youre too far away anyway But in all seriousness dont take it too personal Glenn, the thread was just to inform other members to take second or third opinions about servicing their BMW or any other car they might have EVEN if the mechanic is well respected in the industry. And as I have said my biased opinions do show through on the posts but I'm not too fussed about it anymore and I actually have moved on. NO bad feelings I would hope Glenn!

Good lesson learnt about these sort of threads BUT I will keep my biased thoughts about that workshop to myself However, if youre going to go on with quotes you forgot to mention: Which basically stipulates another member here with a same model car went in, paid 300, 6 hours of getting the car diagnosed, only to get a quote saying 9 grand + labour. So the issue of IF I booked it in I would have got a better diagnosis is quite frankly in my mind upto chance. You can lock this thread if you wish admin

I saw a while back Dinan for its stage one headers just port and polish the stock headers and that still gives quite good improvements in performance. Now moving away from the marketing jargons and claims of "it will increase XX hp and torque" from Dinan, do you guys think this is actually quite a good idea to have this mod done? I had this done on my STi headers and it did yield some good improvements but I'm not sure if the same principle could be applied to a car much different to the STi. Any thoughts appreciated!

Oooh Glenn I think you read this slightly biased Im not trying to crucify them in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM All I'm saying is, M3 Guy actually paid 300 dollars and nearly 6 hours of diagnosis without his M3 only to find out its the front bottom engine cover rubbing on the pulley of the powersteering pump. As for me as well didnt pay but Guido was quite certain its Vanos in the short time he heard the car. Not trying to say BM Workshop is that dodgy of a place, but getting two similar faults wrong and diagnosing it as a 9 grand vanos unit does tick me off ever so slightly. All I'm saying is for other members to get some other opinions before commiting to any mechanic diagnosis thats all unless you have one that you really trust.

Its worthwhile getting this service done on our M3's because they are basically 14 year olds cars and yours has been on the track . Also Hans told me that the bloody stupid previous owners (except the one just before me) hadnt done the inspection two and valve adjustment/shimming done for quite some while So after doing that I have a piece of mind about the car.

Why would I have an auto M3 thats sin lol Anyway, diff oil, gearbox, microfilter, and valves and shims need to be adjusted every 30000-40000kms on our cars. And yes you do use ATF. It actually says on the lid of where you put the gearbox oil "ATF Only"

Yeah I know humans make mistakes but I could have forked out another 9 grand for the car after my good old inspection two. So if I did get them to put a vanos unit in that would be 10 grand already and having to spend that exorbitant amount of money on a car in two weeks is not what I call moving on with life I could probably have snapped up a E30 325 Motorsport as a daily for that kind of money and still fix the fans and be happy with my M3 Anyway not really having a huge go at them but as Gannet said when you are doing servicing or have problems with the car get a few more opinions on the problem before you commit.

I honestly really question these guys. I had a little scrape with the kerb while parking the car and after that the fan seemed to hit something and make this noise. Now worried as you would be I went to Guido at BM Workshop. He tried to say my Vanos is bunged up and that it needs a new unit which usually costs 9 grand. Anyway to cut a long story short, showed the problem to my M3 master M3 Guy and he told me he had the same problem and that the bottom cover under the fan must have been lodged up when I was parking the car and that the fan when ever I start it hits the cover for 4 seconds and then dies down. I'm not trying to blame but these guys really puzzle me... I heard some good things about these guys and took the car in good faith but diagnosed something which was way off tangent. Also M3 Guy had 300 dollars spent on diagnosis only for his mechanic friend who also deals with Euro Cars rip the under cover off and walah~ no more noise. Got the same "Oh sorry mate its the VANOS" diagnosis too. Are these guys usually like this or have I got them on their bad day?

Yeah I'm on to those parts already Trying to get some parts from Pelican parts from the states. Is there any other place that can get these done cheaper?

I love it! Best money spent ever! (even if it was $1200) Made the car smoother and it pulls much better too! Shocking thing was that 21 valves needed readjustment as they werent opening fully but all replaced with new shims and now its just going like a mad red dog! (Yes my car's name is Clifford ) The gearbox oil (ATF Dexron III), diff oil (castrol XJ 75w140), spark plugs and the micro filter was done too. Now Hans the service manager in Silverfield Jerry's has told me I will have to do the rear shock mounts and flex discs or guibo couplings soon because they are worn and cracked like theres no tomorrow. Overall I got a nicely groomed car inside and out including the engine, and a happy M3 owner
