  1. E34 535i 1989 manual M30 engine with flap type Air Flow Meter. Checking the air flow meter from Bentley manual data, it appears that the incoming supply on pin 3 should be 5 volts (measured 4.98), the resistance between pin 1 and 4 (temperature sensor) should be between about 2.1 k ohm and 2.9 k ohm at 20 degrees (measured 2.33 k ohm) and the air flow meter itself should change resistance smoothly as the flap is moved. Unfortunately I couldn't find if the reading should go up or down and what resistance values to expect. Measured values (from rest to flap fully depressed) change as follows: 560 ohm -> 1100 ohm -> 800 ohm to around 300 ohm or less when the flap is fully depressed. Does anyone know what these should be? I'm not even sure if the resistance should increase or decrease as the flap moves from rest to fully open. I'm thinking that the non linear change observed, means that I need a new air flow meter, but I would like to know what the resistance measurements should be. Has anyone repaired one of these? Can they be repaired?
  2. In the US it was mainly the M60 V8 - i.e. E34 530 and 540 In the UK there were probably more people with the M52 six-cylinder engine affected. Most of the info you want is here... http://www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum/for...osts.asp?TID=41
  3. Hi, I'm looking to get springs plus shocks for my E34 535i manual. My needs are... 1. Replace worn out fronts shocks. 2. If the fronts are shagged, the rears can't be far behind so replace them too. 3. Lower the car to improve handling and get rid of that nose in the air look (standard springs and 17 inch wheels). Due to (1) above, I need this reasonably soon and prefer to go to a place that can do both springs and shocks... although prepared to mix and match if need be. I don't want to go super low... esp at the rear where I'm told that can lead to camber (or was it caster?) induced tyre wear. However the front looks like it could come down a bit. Looking at the H&R web site they seem to offer a set of springs that give a 1.3 (33mm)/0.75 (20mm) front/rear drop. Does anyone have any feedback on these? What about shocks? Any recommendations/suggestions? I'm in central Auckland area, so experiences/recommendations on local suppliers/fitting etc would be good. I'm aware of the H&R guy on the forum, so will probably give him a call in the next day or two. Cheers
  4. Thanks for the welcomes... I guess there had to be at least one other alex on here. Hi alex. I'll take a look at the Suspension & Steering and probably check out the H&R guy too.
  5. Looks like India - not Thailand. I've been to Thailand and it's not too different to that in Bangkok. But notice in the video those older cars - a white one does a U-turn at about the 30 second point. I think that would be an Ambassador - made in India for many years, based on an old BL design.
  6. Hi, just thought I'd introduce myself. Living in Auckland and I've had an E34 535i manual for a couple of years. No pictures at the moment. I'm probably be going to look at upgrading the suspension, so will searching the boards for the best options for that. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.
